What with ping and packet losses and late packets? I'm in Dunedin. Could you you test with packet loss test and write the results in comments please?
@Volkaer2 жыл бұрын
- How would you think it would fare in very windy areas? - You keep mentioning connection gets interrupted - is it 1 minute every 10 minutes, 1 minute every 1 hour, or a period of time in a 24 hour period where the connection is unstable? - What is the latecy and packet loss like? Speed is irrelevant if there is high packet loss and/or latecy for my use. - Did you manage to use your own router over the provided one? That seems to be the weakest link in the whole setup from most of the feedback, as it has near to nil configurability and basic functions like ethernet port.
@9and32 жыл бұрын
it would be fine in windy areas. the black outs are from gaps in the overhead satellite network - gaps which are now getting less and less as more satellites are going up. Depends where you are so could be 30 sec's every hour of something like that.
@Volkaer2 жыл бұрын
@@9and3 Ok Cheers. The interrupts might be a deal breaker for me, as internet stability vastly prioritises speed for my situation. Might have to stick with my current wireless LOS based ISP, at least until enough satellites are up to have near zero interruptions in a 24 hour cycle...

@@9and3 when they upgrade my ancient meter to a new smart meter I'll be able to split my usage like that, particularly with the HVAC running. And then solar PV (without battery) will also be worthwhile. I'd need about 20 to 30kWh of battery storage with the HVAC overnight in winter (long cold nights). Too expensive ATM. Currently I'm on 23c/kWh fixed. Lots of very old properties here still on the original meters, unfortunately that's also where the spaceX satellites might be most useful. My only option here is 4G. Fibre and 5G (or later) will not be options for decades here in rural areas. PS. I happened to see the string of tiny lights going over when they launched the 3rd set. @@9and3 We are a Tasman and a bit away from Queenstown, Sunshine coast in Queensland! Up on our roof today it seems the Starlink coverage app is very picky, we will need to cut down many trees, or put up a 15 metre tower to get coverage if it is accurate. Considering we are elevated, and can see North/North East well over 20KMs, I'm a little surprised and disappointed.

@@mrcurlywhirly1671 Sorry my dyslexia kicked in and I read your location wrong :) wow cutting down trees and putting up towers, thats serious! Did you use the Starlink app to 'find' the trees that were blocking the signal etc?
@mrcurlywhirly16713 жыл бұрын
@@9and3 No problem. We are on acreage - rainforest mixed with orchards etc, so it was a given there were going to be plenty of trees around. From the peak of the roof around 5 metres up, it looked like 100 degrees of sky view would be a doddle. Not according to the app, it still picked up trees on the periphery, and although they looked like a minor obstruction it was recording as low as a projected 15 seconds between outages - best I could get was 3 minutes outages on the app. To use the app to project whether a very long pole would make enough difference would mean strapping the mobile to my drone and doing some very fancy aerobatics... I'm tempted to just wait for the gear and hope we can add a higher mount, or their field of view reduces with more satellites.
