Got my Starlink system up on the barn roof in Cust, North Canterbury. Super impressed, 195 / 45 yesterday. Great news for Kiwi rural internet.
@9and33 жыл бұрын
Great stuff. Are you finding it a stable connection?
@mooblogger3 жыл бұрын
@@9and3 It drops out most nights around 9pm for a few minutes and sometimes in the mornings at about 6am otherwise it is a stable service. These outages are to be expected I guess as the service is still in beta. I've hooked up my 2degrees rural mobile broadband as a failover to cover the small outages.
@Pete8563 жыл бұрын
It's a bit expensive compared to some of the other rural options out there, but it is faster than most. I'm also in Canterbury and I'm paying less than half of what Starlink costs for a stable 25/7 Mb connection, 200GB cap on evening peak time and unlimited midnight to 5pm. As much as I would like a faster connection at times, it's not really necessary.

Mine arrived in Lyttelton on the 22nd of March as well, a bloody quick delivery speed! So far so good as far as speeds go, but numerous disconnections. I have a SamKnows whitebox, which indicates a lot more disconnections than the Starlink app is reporting. I'm still connected to ADSL via 2degrees (until the contract runs out), since ADSL was all that was available to me, and on that I get about 8Mbps down and 0.9 up. I'm now averaging about 180Mbps down and 32 up, according to SamKnows. I must say I'm pretty happy!

I would imagine absolutely yes. It works pretty much anywhere in the world but until all the satellites are in the sky coverage may not be continuous 24hrs a day with a few minutes black spots here and there. You can google coverage maps to see but they are getting better every day.

@Kiwionwing3 жыл бұрын
Yes we are vaners 12v is the norm
@blen-nz3 жыл бұрын
You'll have to use an inverter, as it's not really a "power brick". It uses POE I think, and it's 100W or so. That makes a 12V current draw of a little over 8amps, which is going to be a fairly heavy user of your precious solar power. Of course you can turn everything off when you're not using it. Starlink is looking at developing mobile units I believe.

@@blen-nz real problem is moving in bus / truck or site business locations
@magamike18003 жыл бұрын
@@blen-nz Thanks for the info. I have ordered a cyber truck so i will be able to plug it into an outlet straight out of the bed/vault. If the power brick puts out 12v then it might be better to just power it off my 12 battery bank and not run any inverters. hope to have 3KW of solar so using 100w during the day will hardly be noticable.
@blen-nz3 жыл бұрын
@@Kiwionwing There are some videos of people in the US moving their units a fair distance from their registered address, and still getting connectivity. I haven't tried it yet, although I was tempted to take it on our caravan trip to the Catlins last week. There's plenty of chatter about potential "RV" applications in the (hopefully near) future. I'll happily beta test a caravan mounted dishy!

Also when they launch the sats with the lasers equiped they won’t need the ground stations or as many of them so will Become obsolete?
@johnwilson57433 жыл бұрын
@@unnamedchannel1237 That is my understanding also. Just by listening to the information released. But it will be some time before they start replacing the sats already up there. I think they'll concentrate on just getting more and more in space first. Although they have said that the sats flying over land that cannot easily get ground stations. (Large jungle mass, North Pole/South Pole) etc. will have the laser equipped abilities to communicate directly with the other sats via laser relay. I think there plan was to progressively replace the existing ones with the new laser abilities as each is due to be replaced. Was that two or three years? I can't recall.
