It doesn't need to by wide open. That is a common misnomer. I've been amazed at the speeds while under trees.

Starlink can absolutely have great speeds when your view is not obstructed because at that exact time you have a clear view to the satellite, so you will experience great speeds. However, if you have some obstructions somewhere in your line of view because of trees, you will have times you experience interruptions and periods of no internet connectivity that can be as short as a 1s drop or sometimes much longer such as 15 seconds or more. Every situation is different and sometimes some minor obstructions have little effect while other times it can be extremely frustrating if the obstructions are severe enough. It also depends on what you are doing on on the internet on how much these interruptions impact you. Streaming creates a pretty large buffer so interruptions are way less noticeable, but real time video conferencing will generally experience noticeable interruptions from just a 2 second drop or longer.
