I have the Standard RV package for $135 per month. While at home, am I throttled on my upload? It seems very low. Should I close my account and open the home version for $110 per month and then just toggle over to RV when needed?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 2 жыл бұрын
Home with the Portability option costs the same $135/month. The only difference is that you can't pause the service. So if you use it all year round, you are better off with Residential Service with the Portability addon.

@@HomeARoam The only way I can see to do that is to Cancel my service and then sign up again for new service is that correct??? And thanks for the timely answer.

Yes, that might actually be the case. I think you can transfer from Residential to RV, but not the other way around unfortunately.

Hello. Local to you. Are you using your home service on the when Rving or do you have a the roam package. Just ordered my home equipment (199cdn) but want to us it solely in our trailer. Thanks for any info.

Can you drive around with your starlink attached to that pole or you always have to take it down when driving?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 11 ай бұрын
In theory we might be able to drive with it up. The pole can handle 60+mph winds easily. But we'd rather not push our luck, so we always take it down. 😁 The design makes it pretty quick and easy to put up and down.

Thanks for the comparison. We have Starlink at our second home and also signed up for Starlink for RVs as we also have a camper. The residential Starlink equipment came a few weeks back and it's working well at our second home. The RV order looks like it was automatically canceled by Starlink. I guess I'm wondering if I could bring the residential equipment on a camping trip and use it that way. The only issue is that we don't have an inverter for 120v AC appliances and I was hoping Starlink would have an option to run off 12v DC power - seems that is not the case.

Hey David, you can definitely use your current Starlink for your RV trips as long as you add the Portability feature (otherwise it won't work away from the registered address). The hardware for both services is exactly the same, so you will need an inverter if you're camping somewhere without electrical service. Be sure to get a _pure sine wave_ inverter. They're more expensive, but a modified sine wave inverter can damage electronics. Starlink also uses a fair bit of power (50-75W) so you'd probably want at least 100-200Ah of battery, preferably lithium. And you'll probably want some solar to keep it charged. Bit of a list there, eh? 😁 Check these videos for more details: bit.ly/har-lithium-install and bit.ly/har-solar-install

great video, we just purchased SL roam as well. We live in the interior of BC and camp mostly around here. We also just made an appointment to update our solar panels we will have a total of 360w of panels, and will be doubling our 6v batteries to 4 instead of 2. Power consumption was my main concern with the SL system, although we don't plan on having it on all the time we are camping, but mainly when CFL games or NHL playoff games are on. so possibly up to 5 hours a day. So a couple of questions, do you put your SL system to sleep at night, or do you unglug to have zero power, if so is it just the router you unplug or the entire system. Thanks in advance, i'm looking forward to hearing how you conserved power after having it a while.

Hi! Sounds like you have a great system! We shut down the Starlink by unplugging the router. It has a sleep mode too, but that still uses a fair bit of power.

If you have power in your basement, put the router in there and run the cables through door seal. much easier.

Starlink RV up in Canada is $170 CAD +%13 Taxes = $192/Month + $952 in initial shipping/Material charges !! SOO that's another $79 CAD/month for a grand total of $271/Month for the first year !! That's just crazy !!

Is there a fee for turning on portability ? We want to be able to use starlink at home and take it with us on camping trips however the rv option is to expensive to justify
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, currently the residential service plus portability option costs the same as the RV service. Base cost of $110 USD/mo plus $25/mo = $135/mo. But that will let you use it at home or on the road as necessary.

@@HomeARoam yes but keep in mind your speeds will drop and you will be deprioritized when you roam away from your home address.

Unless... you update your home address as you travel! 😁 We usually do this if we're going to be somewhere for a few days or longer. But you need to be careful since there's a chance you won't be able to update it back to your home address. That's not a big deal for us since we have fiber at home.

@@HomeARoam So, what I'm reading is Home version in portability mode, it's just as expensive as RV service because of the added fee, it kicks the priority down to RV service, and they might catch on that I moved 30+ times in the last 2 months? Might as well go RV service? Wondering if RV service can be switched to residential service if for example I sold the RV?

Hi Ethan, it's the Flag Pole Buddy Starlink Kit (2nd Generation) found at flagpolebuddy.com/ -- Note there are other popular options too, including a collapsible pole from Harbor Freight. This Facebook group has daily conversations about the best way to mount :) facebook.com/groups/starlinkrv - Hope that helps!

True. Now they've completely separated the packages into either Residential (must stay at a fixed address) and Roam (can use it anywhere in North America, but you get low priority service unless you pay a premium). They've actually made it quite complicated now. We should probably do any updated video to explain it all. 😁
