I get 3Mbps Download and 700Kbps Upload with my ISP called Windstream. My connection is DSL, like a 50 year old super brittle copper line. It's horrible, my speeds used to be almost 4Mbps a few years ago, but the line has been "fixed" up sooo many times that it gets worse and worse and worse. Then speedtest is nice with the graph so you can see stability of speeds if stays high or dips for some reason over short time..
@TheHuesSciTech4 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, in what sense/how do you figure setting max conns to 30 would be 'most accurate'?Naively, I'd have thought that if a service provider required 30 parallel connections to achieve its highest speed, then your day-to-day internet applications would have to retrieve 30 parallel streams for that to be a relevant figure, but they don't. Put another way: I think most end-user applications stream using far fewer than 30 connections, so why would setting the speed test to such unrealistic settings make it 'most accurate' as opposed to just straight unrepresentative of real world use?
@aaron8404 жыл бұрын
@@TheHuesSciTech ISP has no controll how many connections you make to the server. if you torrent think of seeders. its kinda same. ISP just gives you the connection to outside world. Like torrents the more seeders you can connect to the greater chance you will hit full speeds. @Tishers4 жыл бұрын
Your numbers will jump around a bit. As the satellite makes passes overhead the dish will track until it reaches the horizon where it is about to drop-out. Signals will usually be strongest when the satellite is at its apex (pointing straight up) and increasing or decreasing the closer to the horizon the dish gets. Then, when it drops a satellite it will take a few seconds for the dish to hunt to the next satellite. You may have a momentary drop-out for 5-15 seconds as that happens. Your "average" throughput will be good, and get better as there are more satellites in view (nearest the apex). Right now the satellite constellation is sparse, with not enough satellites to give consistently high numbers all of the time.

If you see developer mode, then click on 'statistics' You can scroll left and right and then see the whole 24 hours of service in graphs. Try showing if the dish had any connectivity issues from the app? Its a moving system. These speed tests are designed for a steady connection. Maybe we can get better results by taking the mean of daily/weekly tests on different day times. I really like your videos on your experiences with Starlink. I wonder if anyone from Starlink watches your videos to get an idea of what's being said on social media. Keep up the great work, and if you find any nuances with using Starlink, I'd be interested in what you learn. Specifically, think about the satellites orbiting above you in Low Earth Orbit, and how your internet connection is being handed off between multiple satellites up there. Could that process be what you're seeing in the graph towards at the end of this video? Whereby, when there's miles of water between your dish and the satellites in orbit (e.g., rain/snow), the effect of your internet connection being handed off becomes worsened or more prevalent/pronounced? It's just a thought....
@lankanmon554 жыл бұрын
Hey, just FYI, the reason that different speed tests give you different results is that they all use different servers on the other end. Depending on how far the server is from the Starlink ground station will determine the speed of the data transfer. Fast.com uses Netflix data centers and partner ones, speedtest.net has a ton of partner datacenters (so they will almost always be the closest to you -- and fastest) and Google uses almost exclusively their own datacenters. If you are looking to determine the fastest speed under those conditions, it whatever the max was that you got. The others only matter when you think about what content they provide, for example, Google will be a good indicator of your KZbin video loading speeds and Fast.com will be indicative of Netflix video loading speed etc. Just thought that info would be helpful for any future tests. Thanks for a very informative video!

Oh and gaming, yea I game like Rocket League and Rising Storm 2 Vietnam, Star Wars Battlefront II and yea there's the odd drop but if your not in a money match playing tournament level gaming where your going to win or lose 10 grand then it's perfectly fine...after the glitches are worked out you'll be just like sitting in town on cable etc... I also am taking Civil Engineering online now from College so I'm streaming 6 hours a day on MS Teams video and yea there's a few times during it that I'll get that "hold while we reconnect" that lasts for 15 to 30 seconds then it just seamlessly goes back in instantly....It's not a deal breaker at all for me....but if your DEMANDING IT to be on like your heart is on a pace maker and one glitch will send ya to the grave then don't move from the city YET. In fact you should also check where your considering moving the amount of power outages in the rural areas your considering. Some areas have pretty ugly outages where as some places "know on wood for me" have little to none! I've known some people saying they have an outage weekly which would mean more than actually Starlink would be down LOL...so.

Speedtest.net is the only one worth paying attention to. It depends on the server. Find a good consistent server to figure out a baseline, and that will show you the max you’re capable of.

I have seen a few sites that actually map in real time where ALL the starlink satellites are. It would be interesting to see if the location of a satellite in bad weather also influences the speed. Maybe overlay the site when you do your test? Either way, thanks for your update! Now subscribed.

Could you mount the dishes closer to the ground on about a 4 foot structure? Then no ladder would be needed. Would it be possible to build a plastic or glass box to house the dish? You could make the top of the plastic or glass dish housing have a steep slopes surface on the top. Then heat the enclosure to melt the snow. Then you’d just have water droplets on top of the sloped dish enclosure. Then you could mount a windshield wiper on the dish enclosure to wipe off the water droplets.

Get ya a painter extended poll and a squeegee instead of using the ladder. Just a thought. :) cool video not bad on the upload and download times .

How is the streaming? It seems the ping is total BS..Is the connection smooth? Have you tried doing a live stream to test it?
@thomasfriedl31374 жыл бұрын
For 1080p streaming you need about 15mbits minimum and his speed is way higher so it should be more than enough

@@RichardTheTurd556 Well it's not just starlink ping..Try it yourself..do a trace route and see what each individual hop time is..This never seems to add up correctly on any ISP..They some how can mangle the data packet to reflect whatever ping time they want...

The microwave frequency cuts through the rain, snow, ice, etc. That is not affecting your speeds. The dish takes around 100 watts of power, much of which is warming Dishy McFlatface, so unless you lose power, the dish will continue to be snow/ice free. In a recent ice storm, I did lose power and my Starlink was coated with about a half inch of ice. I ran an extension cord from my car to power Starlink system, and had fast Internet in a couple minutes. It took another half hour for the ice sheet to melt and slide off, but ice or not, I didn’t notice speed degradation. What is affecting your speeds are the satellites passing overhead, and behind your tree that does happen to be in just the wrong place.

Tests look good! I am wondering if you could put some RainX on the dish to aid in water removal? I can't wait to be able to sign up. Not available in south Florida from what I understand. Thanks for sharing! Steve

Honestly snow never bothered my internet when I had sat internets. Doubt it'll bother yours when they are even closer

How many drops do you get caused by obstruction? That tree looks like it takes a fair amount of the window. I have mine setup and the trees are pretty far away and sometimes I might get just a bit of the top of the tree, and I noticed my obstruction downtime is anywhere from 10-15 minutes a day, but they are small little bits of connection loss 5-30 seconds. BTW, we had hurricane like rain here in Atlantic Canada a couple of days ago. Things slowed down, but did not lose connection. Other folks on satellite in the area were out a majority of the 24 hour period. And by slow down, I mean in the 40-60 range without issue on the upload.

It may be worth the effort to look into applying a super hydrophobic coating on the dish where any tilt will shed water, instead of beading up and staying. If snow will attenuate signal strength then water will do the same to a lesser degree. That said I don't believe a coating will produce measurable results. I suspect the reduction in performance is due to weather covering between your antenna and satellite which is unavoidable.

In SOME rural regions in Germany, yes. But in general Starlink isn't competitive in regions like central Europe where many people live close together. I pay 55€ for Internet, TV, Telephone. 100 Mbit/s ( reality 80 Mbit/s ). Baden Württemberg, former cable infrastructure of KabelBW / Unitymedia now Vodafon. For 10€ more I could get (advertised) 500 Mbit/s, 1000 Mbit/s for 15€ more.
@gamercatsz54414 жыл бұрын
@@k1dicarus well, belgium is much more densly populated, but there is not enough competition on the telecom market. We pay almost 70 euro per Month for the same things you get. Starlink would be Ideal to disrupt the market.

Yes, I might end up moving it. I will have to build a platform if I do as the other ledge is not wide enough.
