Grew up watching you, rex hunt and bushy as a kid. Nowadays I watch Robbie and a few other Australian fishos on KZbin, so it was real exciting to me to see you guys get together. Kind of a combination of worlds for me!

Well done Starlo!!! It’s becoming a very special Fishery in North East Victoria. They are very tough to catch in there. I’ve caught a couple in there up too 65cm.
@StarloGetsReel2 жыл бұрын
Nice! I think it will only go from strength to strength as it continues to be stocked and the cod should start to thin the reddies out a bit, too!
@user-cf6yw9kg1j11 ай бұрын
We used to catch redfin by the bucket on the Murray at Barooga where I grew up, some 50 odd years ago. Sometimes you would get a double hook up, as they would attack the bait that hard the bait and hook would pass through the gills and a second one would take it. They eventually disappeared from that section of the Murray, not sure whether it was the influence of the European carp, but it was around the time they appeared.
@StarloGetsReel11 ай бұрын
Yes, my first fish was a redfin out of the Lachlan over 60 years ago. A virus and possibly competition with carp dramatically reduced their numbers in many systems. Both carp and redfin are bad for our inland waterways and we’d be better off without either, but at least redfin are good to eat!

Awesome video Starlo, contrary to many opinions Redfin are probably my favourite freshwater fish, you see in WA we don't really have any natives (actually none that are targetable at all), and even our trout don't take to our warmer siltier rivers like they do over east, so all trout are pellet fed stockies that dont look particularly pretty or taste very good. Still most freshwater anglers here put a lot of effort into chasing the trout, but 9/10 times when going fresh I find myself targeting Redfin. I specifically target the bigger models in a similar way as they do in northern Europe, and that perception alone makes me view them in a different light, not the pesky plague of sorts of little "freshwater school whiting", but large hard fighting beautiful fish that remind me of a lot of bass, they're an awesome fish in larger sizes and taste great as well, however I can definitely see why over east they wouldn't get the same love. Either way awesome video Starlo, enjoyed every moment, tight lines.

Thanks so much for sharing that. I have great memories of catching (and eating!) some thumping redfin from the forested streams down south in WA: great country and great fishing. 👍

Thanks Peachy. I think it will only continue to improve. Could develop into a reasonable fly fishery for cod and redfin too, I reckon. Good water clarity.

You put together an excellent well presented video mate. I hope in my lifetime we will be able to catch cod like that over here in the west as we have many places with such potential. Thank you
@StarloGetsReel2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, it's interesting that there was once a localised but quite vibrant little fishery down south for (introduced) cod in WA but they appear to have died out over time. I can't see the authorities ever sanctioning the official relocation of cod over that way. At one level I can understand the reasons, but as you already have redfin, trout and at least koi carp or goldfish, it does seem a tad hypocritical... Your best bet might be to push for some golden perch (yellowbelly) in a few of the dams. I really can't see them having dire impacts on marron, nightfish or any other endemic species... That said, I wouldn't hold my breath! Lucky you saltwater fishing is so good, I guess! Tight Lines.
