My workmates father was a German soldier on the Eastern Front. He said what stopped the Russian attack was they couldn't climb over their own dead. Kinda scary.

I very much appreciate the subtitles but they do sometimes throw a wobbly "bad cess to you"? "son of a botch"? "we will bat carry out the order"?

"We will but carry out the order" is rather a fine line. It carries a sense of resignation with refinement, in an old fashioned bookish English. I don't know if that's the tone of the original Russian; I hope so.

There were some. Estonians themselves made a movie called 1944. You can see there an Estonian SS member as well as Estonian Red army soldier.
