The problem with predicting Starmer's fall (or my country's PM Justin Trudeau) is that these predictions are generally based in what would normally happen politically in normal times. The problem is we are definitely not in normal times and these are not normal politics we're seeing. Throughout the west, especially in Canada, the UK and the EU our so-called leaders have been stretching and breaking the normal rules of behaviour without a lot of pushback for the last twenty-odd years. It's going to take more than a book-full of scandal to remove these tyrants. It's going to take people in the streets en masse and without break for months, maybe years to get it done. And that doesn't include the threat from the Islamic, Hamas, Khalistani, what have you extremists we've been importing by the bushel load going postal. We are in for some very interesting times.

There's really only ever been one reason for a party leader to go, and that's when their party thinks they will lose the next election. Then the MPs chuck in a no confidence motion and chose someone else. There may be issues after the local elections next May, but it's not unusual for the government to get thrashed at the local elections. As for scandals, given what Johnson got away with, the standard for scandals is now very low indeed, people don't seem too bothered for the most part. Starmer is doing a lot of things that people who didn't vote for him, and probably never will, don't like at all. He only needs to worry if people who supported Labour in the last election chose another party, but I doubt many will go to Reform or the Tories. The SNP, Greens, LibDems maybe.
@shugieshugied22699 күн бұрын
@@Jerry-v7l5q Definitely so, but why would Labour voters chose another party, what is on offer elsewhere that is better for them? So far Labour have delivered some of what traditional Labour voters want to see, money being spent on public services, tax loopholes exploited by the rich (VAT on private school fees, inheritance tax on farmland) being restricted, but no sign of reckless spending, if anything not enough being spent on some public services. The last polling I saw was that 90% of those who voted Reform and 81% of those who voted Tory were unhappy with Starmer, but only 28% of Labour voters were. And the biggest issue Labour voters have with Starmer is his reluctance to rejoin the EU. The problem for Reform is that their economic policies are all about cutting public services, and decreasing the amount of tax paid by the wealthy. The Tories are much the same on economic issues. If Starmer does not spend enough on public services he will lose Labour voters, but I think he understands that risk and will avoid it. He may come to regret commitments about tax increases and not rejoining the EU though.
