My dad passed away 12 years ago and we had this played at this funeral. He was ex-RAF. Think about him a lot and his love for all the services. Thanks to all those who have and are serving to keep us safe!

The first time I heard this tune was at the Royal Tournament at Earls Court many years ago. I heard it again yesterday, played by the Royal Marines at the beating retreat ceremony at Bournemouth Air Festival. This and Sunset are my two absolute favourite pieces of military band music. Both make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, They make me so proud of our armed forces.

1st time I heard this was at the Colchester Tatoo in 1982, I was in 1 Sqn RCT at the time and volunteered to help out at the Tatoo, where I helped carry out the kettle drums, then they played this. Still sends a shiver down my spine. Fantastic!

This arrangement is not great. The original Light Division one is way better and much more emotional than this. I was in 2RGJ and the Corunna band. People should and listen to the real thing; this isn’t it.

Yeah, the Massed Bands and Bugles of the Light Division version is a bit ragged round the edges but hits a spot that no other version quite gets.
