Fantastic composition! Love the leading line into Longs. So wonderful that you have the agreement with the NPS to capture such images and the knowledge (and fitness!) to do it. I've done a fair amount of astro in RMNP in recent years but nothing like that! Looking forward to seeing it in your gallery.

Thanks! I've been doing this for 20 years and am pretty comfortable on hiking through talus in the dark. The challenging part is wayfinding the best route once I'm in the thick of the trees.

Just remember that if you have a full moon you won’t be able to see many stars.

OMG, Erik - what a great image! Can you see Spearhead in there as well? That looks like quite a steep, difficult trek - especially with that monster pack - so glad your planning paid off so well. I love these types of episodes, great job. Now you need to go back and get a winter shot from that location 😉

Paul, why don't you join me for that winter trek. Perhaps we can ski up there. :) Spearhead is in the image, but it's a little difficult to see it clearly as it blends in with Chief's Head. What's interesting is that my night image has the headlamps of a couple of people bivying at the base of the Spearhead.
