True. I bought this game years ago and still didn't had energy to dive into it- vanilla style. I need to learn how to play but the mods man...the mods tempt me so much.
@CAMSLAYER13

@@chillax319adding mods will severely overwhelm you if you aren't that familier with the game. You'll end up being at war with way more factions and fighting fleets that are likely tougher than vanilla with less info.

I still play vanilla, but I did get some mods to just enhance some stuff. Visuals mostly. Nothing in the way of combat or overhuals. Stuff like portraits and the like

I started out as a scavenger, but I always had a hard time trying to get to those excessively far exploration contracts.... until you mentioned that if you bring a tanker frigate with you, the distance you can travel increases dramatically and I smacked my gob when I realized how much sense that made! Thank you for the video!

And if you haven't learned it by now, invest in salvage rigs and salvage perks. You can maintain your fleet indefinitely through salvage alone.
@CAMSLAYER13
@CAMSLAYER13 11 ай бұрын
Its also worth looking at the efficency of your fleet. Dragging a capital ship across the galaxy is gonna take a lot more than a handful of mid size ships.
@MrMarttivainaa
@MrMarttivainaa 11 ай бұрын
@@CAMSLAYER13 After I have a few colonies bringing in boatloads of cash I always end up just rolling with my war fleet in deep space so I don't have to avoid anything or anyone. 2-4 capital ships, a few Eagles and smaller carriers and some frigates. A few haulers and tankers full of fuel and supplies are enough to last until the next big salvage opportunity and if i start running low I'll make a run to the core systems. The scavengers are suddenly more friendly and let me loot in peace.

For those just starting out I highly recommend investing into the leadership perkline. Wolf Pack, Trained Crew, and other perks buff the entire fleet making all ships more combat capable and thus allows for an easier time in combat.

I think I have gotten addicted to steam because I went to find it on Steam and like you ay when I said well I hope Ziggy says were to get this from. And you did :) I started playing that other gave Star Valor, you maybe could have mentioned that the game was not even close to being finished :) However I have spent a fair bit of time with that game and on run 4 or 5 I finally built by Zeus ship, I have yet to actually complete fitting it and equipping weapons but I did build it :) I also built a Carrier ship but I think calling the Kurma a carrier might be an over complement but I did stick three ships with it and mining out a field of rocks does seem to go much better but maybe buying the Miner big ship would have been a better choice because it actually has a storage space much better than 3 space. Anyway still not complaining just need the guy to put in more quests because I kind of find myself doing whatever I want, I've not made it to 50 yet but I'm getting closer :)

If they ever get onto steam. I dunno. I had someone suggest the title to me but I was turned off by their website and their lack of willingness to use early access on steam. Yet they're selling early access independently. Also by the sounds of it they're forcing people to make fleets compared to similar titles that are more lenient and allow people to choose to go with one vessel if they like. Either that or its just poor presentation on their website. I wasn't sold by it and don't really feel it would satisfy the itch I'm craving in this particular genre.

@@lightningshifterwell that’s your loss because the game is an absolutely brilliant Space Sandbox RPG. Also flying one ship…. Would not get you far in the game. I've started playing this game shortly after it released, back when it still didn't have the campaign mode. Discovered it through Total Biscuit's video (back when it was still called Starfarer), I think that was the point when the game really took off and it's core community started forming. To this day it has remained my top 10 favourite game of all time, it is the absolute best space sim on the market with everything I'd want from the game like this. And if the base game isn't enough, there are enough really high quality mods to make it a couple times bigger, even transform it into a proper 4x game with their help where you can actually invade and take over enemy planets, and so can they. As a matter of fact I am playing it right now, yet again. The videos don't do this game justice, it is way more fun to play and has more depth than meets the eye, especially when it comes to ship building and combat.

Another thing I'd recommend to brand new players is to try some of the basic mission mode stuff BEFORE trying the campaign. The combat in the game is amazing but the sandbox mode has limited engagements at the start. Getting a taste of medium/large fights at the very start can help players build the motivation to learn all the fleet management/trading/exploration stuff that comes later.

I actually just saw Cohhcarnage playing this as well, it was recommended to me by Twitch and I saw "Star Sector", caught me off guard. I picked up the game way back when you first played it but bounced off of it because of it's initial difficulty hurdle so this video helps me out a ton. Might have to jump back in and give it another go. On another note, I just finished another indie game that completely floored me - Symphony of War. Steam randomly recommended it to me so I checked it out and it blew me away, I'm planning on going back through it again sometime soon. Anyway, thought it was worth mentioning. I feel like it deserves any success it gets. Cheers! Edit: +1 for people who'd like to watch you do a playthrough of Star Sector!

Even though Phase ships have been nerfed from the last update, they are still pretty OP. I run one as my flagship in a mixed fleet of high techs, mid lines and low techs and destroy the bigger bounties, it's a great way of making money, and is a bit more fun that just flying from station to station on a trade loop. Paragons (space doughnuts) whilst great, are too heavy on resources. You don't want to be flying those long distances. The Hammerhead and Sunder are amazing and you can go a long way into the game just with them. Best load out for a hammerhead is with linked assault chainguns. Best load out for Sunder (that I've found) revolves around a plasma cannon and twin graviton pulsers (I rather love the graviton pulser, deadly at close range). It is important not to overload your ships, as you will be "outfluxed" by the enemy. You don't have to fill every slot on a ship's loadout. Don't overlook pirate ships, specifically the Vanguard, Manticore, Enforcer or Eradicator. The Manticore is amazing with its central large slot, the Enforcer can come in useful for holding cruisers up. The Eradicator in many faction types is great, I like the pirate one, but the Luddic path and regular ones are great too. The Vanguard is cheap, can cause annoyance in numbers, and rarely is destroyed after each battle. Best to experiment, regardless of what you do. You might enjoy some formations more than others, and favour some ships that other people don't use so much. There are four common strategies for combat, close, long, carrier, sneaky. Those strategies work better on some enemies compared to others so be prepared to mix up your fleet composition from time to time.

Also a tip not mentioned that I feel is CRUCIAL! BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SELL! Especially on the "other" market. Pirates can and WILL get the things you sell. So if you sell the blueprints to an extremely powerful vessel on there. And a pirate comes to whatever station you sold it at, and buys (Or just steals as pirates do) that blueprint. Guess what you're gonna start seeing in pirate fleets. Especially if you also sell material printers or whatever they're called. Someone else learned this the hard way as they suddenly ran into a pirate fleet with a giant super battle cruiser or something that tore them to shreds. It was only after he pondered how they even HAD the thing. That he remembered he basically, unintentionally sold them the ability to make as many as they want.

If you have D-mod on ships you recover, can you get rid of them, ro beter can you repair it afterwards to get it back to full strenght?
@ZiggyDGaming

Vents and capacitor on civilian ships would just affect their flux management in combat, which they hopefully never see. You can repair D mods at stations but it is expensive, more than buying a new ship potentially so is mainly useful for rare ships. There is an industry perk which repairs 1 D mod a month, it's really good!

how does the missiles work? they seem to be the only limited use item. as far as i can tell the energy and ballistic weapons have unlimited use. once the missiles are fully used up in a battle does it replace them outside of combat using supplies or w/e other resources or do we need to resupply at a station maybe?
@ZiggyDGaming
@ZiggyDGaming Жыл бұрын
Missiles are only limited in the battle itself and replenish automatically outside of battle (that's one thing "combat readiness" and supply use to restore it is simulating)

rather informative, question about recovering pirate ships. Would it be worthy it to salvage there ships in order to scuttle them? Or is that not cost effective?
@ZiggyDGaming

There's no benefit to recovering ships to just scuttle them (or sell), better to just salvage the first time if you don't plan on using them as it's more economic overall! It's good because it makes the gameplay way smoother too.

Im a long time Elite Dangerous player and this game is amazing. Two questions! 1. Can this be played with one ship and stay like that? Is it a huge disadvantage? 2. How to improve movement? It feels clunky so far to me, and movement seems like a HUGE thing, to get better. How to get better?
@ZiggyDGaming
@ZiggyDGaming Жыл бұрын
While you can certainly fly around and do things with one ship you will be fairly limited - the game is very much built around managing and commanding a fleet. Movement depends on what aspect you mean. Map travel movement depends on overall fleet speed and using sustained burn correctly (as shown in the vid) helps a lot. Combat movement depends on your ship, a wolf is fast and nimble while a big heavy pirate ship might be quite unwieldy. Mostly though combat takes a bit of practice as it's a unique style of control compared to most games. As shown in the video inverting the.controls helps a lot in smaller ships as turn to cursor feels more natural. Hope this helps!

I'm really late to getting to this video, oops. Starsector is one of my favourite games, but it's difficult for people to make videos about it because it's a pretty darn slow paced game. Personally my favourite start (if not playing Nexerelin) is the Explorer start - the Apogee is such an amazing cruiser that can be a player's flagship well into the endgame, it's so versatile and not only is it powerful in the player's hands, it's also very strong as a campaign ship for its built in hullmods.

Apogee's also make for great shield tanks in a mixed fleet. An Apogee with a PD Loadout and some Monitors is a strong shield wall against fighters and fleets.

Starsector is absolutely amazing. I was kinda hoping for a pale shadow of this playing star valor, but that was a big disappointment, all that game did was make me start a new starsector game. Amazing modding scene too!

Whaaaaa? What was the keybind that lets you use a slider to only sell part of the fuel? I discovered SHIFT+click and CTRL+click and I get that now, but I still don't know how you got that slider. And why wouldn't they want you to know?

I've been looking through reddit and other sites, but I've yet to find any actual help for early fleet composition. Anyone have any advice? PS I know I'm commenting on a fairly old vid, but you never know
@ZiggyDGaming
@ZiggyDGaming 5 ай бұрын
Early fleet composition depends on a few things - like what are your goals? Exploration, bounty hunting, trading all require different things to some extent. It's also primetime for "run whatever you can get your hands on that works". It's my favourite part of fleet building actually as it ends up being quite different each run. Keep things lean on supply costs for a while, a few shielded frigates with captains go a long way with some support from a hammerhead and a small fighter carrier. Don't go too overboard on fuel tankers or cargo ships unless you are going hard on exploring or trading. All this to say it's really the best time to experiment and learn how different ships work together!
