Well it’s reached orbital velocity 3 times. Like they could go to an actual orbit, but what do they really gain from that. They might go to a full orbit for the next flight, but it’s unlikely they get FAA approval in that time even if the hardware is ready.

I don't understand why they are pushing it by doing a steeper reentry angle when it barely made it through intact last time and as far as we know they have done nothing new with the heatshield. Isn't that just asking for another failure during reentry

Testing to failure allows them to know the limits of their designs and systems. Without that they are just guessing.

They'll want a proper landing or at least demonstrate things going wrong after a successful reentry. From the 10K view it's impossible to say why they do anything. But they should be demonstrating new things, not breaking things that didn't work last time either.

They can either not launch again until they launch a block 2 or they can launch flight 6 like they are and try to gain new data they haven't that is within the parameters of the launch license.

This "no orbit" thing is a big deal. Yes, there's enough fuel on board and the engines are powerful enough to achieve orbit, but for some reason they can't risk that yet. Maybe because there are issues, questions or risks about relighting the engines for the deorbiting burn? The Starship program as a whole is completely useless unless it achieves not only orbital flight, but also rapid reuseability. The delay in this program is already causing a delay for Artemis 3, and most likely, because of Starship not being ready, the mission will not land on the moon.

@@PEK-97 you can't compare delays between SLS and Starship... for one thing SLS already fully works and its components have worked together... There may be other things holding SLS up, but it certainly looks like Artemis III will be on the launchpad before the Human Lander System is ready. After all, they need to test the HLS at least once... which already means at least ten refueling flights. Doing that without rapid reusability would be a giant pain and cost a lot of time in itself to build all these starships.
