I remember being so pissed when Titanic won best special effects at the Oscars that year. There isn't a bad effect in this entire movie. I remember sitting in the theater watching Titanic and commenting how the gradient in the night sky was separated by perfectly straight lines.

Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers. Definitely a trilogy of films that usually crack my top ten.

Love this film. The best thing about Verhoeven’s science fiction trilogy is that they can be enjoyed surface level but the longer you live with them the more layers you uncover. Like, as a youngster I was all on board for further adventures with Rico. Then as I get older, I realise the ending isn’t a promise of more. It’s an omen of Rico’s fate; canon fodder in a pointless war.

As a Dutch person. I am happy with the appreciation that Rutger Hauer and Paul Verhoeven are now receiving for their work in the film industry. Starship Troopers is one of the best science fiction films from the 90s. And at the time I didn't understand why this film didn't get the appreciation it absolutely deserved. This is a film not much inferior to Total Recal or Robocop. Thank you for this review. It was once again a good use of time for me.

One of the best movies of the 90s. Had a crush on Dizzy that led me on a misfortunate infatuation with gingers for at least a decade.

Just remember Dizzy was a dude in the book and dies off page while in the books version of OCS. Clancy Brown has had the funnest career path of an actor. From Highlander to this movie and being Mr. Krabs

I recommend a movie called “Pathfinder”. Vikings vs Native Americans action flick where Clancy Brown is the Boss Viking and steals every scene he’s in.

Even if Moose had kept his helmet on he still would have died. He was shot in the bleeding eyeball not any part of the head covered by the helmet. In fact all the helmet would have done is cause the round to bounce back down and do even more damage.

This was the first R-rated movie I saw in theaters. I saw it on my 12th birthday and snuck in after buying a ticket to a different movie. That alone makes this a very nostalgic film for me, but thankfully, it was also a very good movie.

No comment on the theory of - Due to Carmen plotting a new course with the ship, she flew towards the asteroid and knocked it towards earth. Causing the rock to head to her home town/earth and starts the war. If she stayed on course the asteroid wouldn't had made it to earth. Would you like to know more?

Like Alien and Predator I got to watch this film on video as a kid and it's still one of my favourite films to this day. It's absolutely timeless and a classic enhanced by the fact that there's multiple different interpretations in how you want to view it. If this film was made today it would be turned into a series akin to Lord of the Rings and Attack on Titan. It took me a while to figure out what got me so latched onto Attack on Titan on first viewing and after rewatching Starship Troopers a few months ago I figured it out: it's the classic format of three friends joining the military and going through basic training, building relationships only to have the first mission go incredibly wrong and by the end the characters we've watched are changed into formidable soldiers.

I normally save these as workout videos but I'm going to watch this one when I get back from work. This is another one of those movies that transcended genres, while there were still bigger movies everyone was talking about at the time. Visually it accomplished a lot. While even as a late teen I appreciated some of the aspects of this movie's depth, it's one that deserves rewatching. Because I save these I don't always comment but you have an awesome channel. So cosy but you always put in the effort. Sci-fi to period, Indie to mainstream, blockbuster to budget... you never let us down.

Fun tidbit: After giving a film a positive review on Siskel & Ebert, Roger Ebert was challenged by Gene Siskel, who asked Ebert, “Are you feeling alright?” Ebert shot back, “Better than you were the day you gave Starship Troopers a thumbs up!”
@ThreadBomb17 сағат бұрын
I'm so glad you mentioned the meteor attack being a false flag operation. It doesn't make sense from a logistical standpoint, and strategically it's useless: if the Earth was thoroughly bombarded it would make sense, but one lone rock does nothing except stir up the ants nest. I also want to point out the influence of Empire Strikes Back, not only in the bacta tank, but Rico climbing on top of the giant bug is similar to Luke taking out the walker on Hoth.

Man watching the review for this awesome classic makes me want to rewatch it again after so long. I remember seeing Starship Troopers on VHS as a kid and being blown away with, well, everything about it. The awesome designs of the bugs, the guns, the ships, the violence and gore, the boobs lol, the music, like it just had everything. I did watch the Roughnecks tv series back when it first came out and thought it was pretty cool at the time. Granted it's been decades since I've seen it so I don't really remember much about it. And then, there's the sequels. Oh god! Really didn't like the second film. Thought the third film was better, but still nowhere near as good as the original. The first CG Animated movie, Invasion, I thought was alright. Hadn't seen Traitor of Mars. But yeah give me the og film anyday I'll happily watch it over and over again it's just so damn good.

@MrLorenzovanmatterhoКүн бұрын

@ThreadBomb17 сағат бұрын
Starship Troopers 2 wasn't able to reuse the original armour because it strobed on the shitty digital camera the studio made them use (they wanted to use Red One but were forced to use Panasonic because TriStar had a deal with them). So making new armour was a dent in the already undersize budget.

Paul Verhoeven made this movie, and it got savaged by critics as something that it wasn't. He read a couple of chapters of the book and misinterpreted it as something that it wasn't which is really ironic. It is a good action movie, but it doesn't have a lot in common with the book which is even more thought provoking than the movie.

I didn't like Xander trying to get with Carmen I was glad he was killed off. And even if he lived Carmen would've likely seen him as only a fling or she would've shot him down because she wants to have a career. And a relationship would've complicated things for her. Xander would've felt he finally got the girl only for Carmen to say" Sorry, I want to focus on my career I'm not ready for a serious relationship." Xander gets pissed but Carmen tells him to deal with it & go find someone else. Fun Fact" Patrick Muldoon is the original Austin on the soap opera " Days of Our Lives."
