I have been attempting to load 1 new waveform into my Super 5 for the last few hours, but the file type is showing up as RAW instead of ws6 even when I rename it. I think this is why when I add it to the folder it doesn't load in after resetting the synth, and the slot is empty and the file goes missing. Any idea what I am missing?
@StarskyCarr11 ай бұрын
If you’re on a Mac you need to have file extensions visible otherwise when you change the name to .ws6 you’ve just changed it to name.ws6.raw so it’s still seen as a raw file. There’ll be something similar on the PC. You need to ensure you’ve changed the extension.

Thanks for the useful tutorial, where a lot of information is compiled in one place. However, I have a question: if it's necessary to create a PWM wavetable from a synthesizer, how can I extract the required individual cycles from the automatically recorded sweep? I assume it’s necessary to calculate the modulation duration or something like that, but I can’t quite grasp how to avoid mistakes and precisely select the needed cycles without duplicating identical ones. For example, if the wavetable consists of 128 steps, manual selection of the cycles doesn’t seem reliable or simple. I have no idea how to automate this process, at least to some degree.
@StarskyCarrКүн бұрын
I work out the timing, and try to do the sweep in the correct time. I think at 2048 samples a 128 wave long wavetable worked out around 6 seconds or something. You have to consider the Hz of the tone, is how many loops of the sample that is per second, then divide the wavetable length by that value. For 128 long waves it’s hard! For 2048 it’s 16 times easier :)

i'm new to this, but what are the different 'waves'? are they all for one sound or different sounds?
@StarskyCarr6 ай бұрын
Think of them as the starting point for a tone. analog synths have just 4 basic waveshapes to make sounds from. With wavetables you have loads more flexibility. A wavetable will contain a number of waves that the tone can use by playing through them. A bit like an early form of sampling. there's an article on perfect circuit.com that should help: www.perfectcircuit.com/signal/what-is-wavetable-synthesis

@@StarskyCarr okay. so if i want to sample a sound from another song, i take different sections of the sampled note and create multiple waves with them? if that is the case, is there any reason you chose a particular number of waves? is more better? should you make as many as possible or is that overkill?

I tried … it’s a pita! The envelopes are different as well as the filters, so getting them close on one sound then moving to another and you need to start everything again. In the end I did the bit at the start without envelopes or filters. Creating tones between 2 similar synths is difficult enough. I get so much grief as well if someone doesn’t think I did their synth justice! With 4 it’s far too time consuming. It’s why nobody does it I guess 😂

@@StarskyCarr Ok so quick update about using the waves in a VST Instrument. I got your really cool ''Prophet VS waves'' pack with all the .wav files. They are fantastically crisp, shinny and gritty in an amazing digital way, love them! But as a note for anyone else wondering before buying the pack, so far they seem to only work in Pigments very strangely. The .wav files don't load correctly in neither Dune 3 (it says ''Error, Wrong format, must be Mono .WAV, 16, 24 or 32-bit'', neither in Vital (nothing happens) and neither Ableton's Wavetable synth (it says ''audio file cannot be read, the file does not appear to be a valid WAV file''. So beware before buying if your intention was to use the waveforms in any of these VST synths, they won't work. Make sure you have Pigments, which loads them perfectly. I think you should mention that as a warning in the description pack. They are really amazing though, I'll have fun using them in Pigments.
@StarskyCarr9 ай бұрын
It will be the sample length that’s confusing them most likely, as these are 16 bit mono so should work if in the right format. It’s why I sell the other packs as specific for each synth. Finding the correct format per synth can be time consuming. But with the .wav files it will be possible. Maybe the others take a specific file length etc? Every one is different … I dont have the others to test them on. Or configure to the correct format.
