Thanks for the video! Do you have any ideas about mobile setups? I have been recording my phone just with a phone and a cheap logitech headset. But I want to find a mic that is 1) mobile so I can walk around and talk 2) doesn't pic up background noise 3) doesnt pic up extra 'p' and 's' sounds and other harsh noises from my mic or touching the headset lol I've been doing some research but it's hard to even know what to search for! Please let me know if you have any videos or info about this stuff.

Is this something you could do with two mics?
@KevinRossRN
@KevinRossRN 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’ll pick up two mics, however the issue is getting those two signals to be separated out into two tracks, which is likely what you’d want. I’d you’re both in the same space, the alternative could be to each record on your own device, and then Airdrop (if you’re on iPhone) the clips either onto a computer for editing, or just to the other’s phone so that you can edit in GarageBand and bring in those two tracks.

Oh yeah, the SC-6L. Forgot about that. It’s because there’s “technically” two channels it’s using. Because since we can talk through a mic on the AirPods and then obviously hear that audio back, it’s taking those signals and splitting them. Not sure about it splitting the tracks for editing, but it’s a start.

Well, not on its own. You could use something like this as an example: amzn.to/34ydn38 What you really need is an interface to split that audio out as the phone isn't capable of it on its own. Another solution would be to record separately on each phone, save the files, and then just combine those files on whichever phone you choose to edit on.

I know as an Android user myself, it's kind of silly that there isn't something as fluid as Garageband, however to give Apple credit here, this was just a very simple tool to make music and do (some) voice work way back in the day, which has obviously evolved into quite a bit more. Not to mention Apple's desire to get as many creators and pros using an iPad vs. a laptop.

Ha! That's the funny thing. I have been an Android user since the first Google Phone. Never owned an iPhone, but got the iPhone SE to do some testing on. I've been a MacOS user for about 10 years though, which that alone has just been awesome to be able to now Airdrop video, photo, and audio files onto my computer. Anyway, certainly not saying to spend money if you don't need, however these iOS apps are becoming more and more intriguing and full of capabilities. Do keep in mind that if you do get an iPad, the non-pro versions do have lightning inputs while the iPad Pro line has USB-C connections, which in my opinion it should just be USB-C all around, but just my opinion.

@@KevinRossRN Yes, I am amazed this idea about the podcast didn't come to me earlier. I agree about making very real connections. I'm very much looking forward to this whole experience. I like the fact that you get to know people and to make a meaningful connection with them. I also hope to provide value - we plan to bring people from all over as well (in English and in Russian, the latter being our primary language and mother tongue), which should be of interest to our Russian listeners. Another thing I've noticed is I really like to talk, so I'm looking forward to perfecting my speaking abilities. Being able to talk clearly and in an accessible and articulate manner is very rewarding, not to mention the fact that it helps clarify your thinking and ideas :)

Yes! On all fronts there, but definitely yes on the speaking part. You'll trip over your words and thoughts at first, but as you do it more you'll start to find that you can really start thinking and responding on your feet pretty well as the conversation goes on. I'm a firm believer in the Learn, Rinse, and Repeat motto. You've got this 🎤👍

Depends on whether it’s dynamic (let’s say 2-3 inches 5-7 ish cm), however with the condenser mic would allow a bit more distance. Also to consider is talking slightly off axis to avoid plosives and to avoid coming in too hot.

@KevinRossRN
@KevinRossRN 3 жыл бұрын
Three times a week would be tough for 50MBs. You’d probably burn through that in a week or two. You could do a free trial with Epidemic sound to see if you can find some music, which is a 30-day trial before you’d need to cancel. My whole thing is time is money. So, something like Epidemic or Artlist, or Musicbed is already curated and you should be able to trial those first. There’s also UppBeat which has a free selection, but you do have to list the artist if you’re using their track.
