I felt like I was listening to myself speak to myself! Very many similarities but the difference is that you're actually changing stuff to finish songs! Having always been attracted to sample based music I've constantly struggled with the commitment part of it. Meaning once it's recorded it's recorded, move on! I've constantly thought, was that the right sample, did I modulate stuff enough to keep it interesting? What if I change my mind and I want to tweak it down the road? The inability to commit to something keeps me back from moving forward. Perhaps it's just one of those things that if I just start doing it, over time it won't feel as foreign.

Yea I'm gonna start just committing to things. In the future when I look back on my music I'd rather have lots of finished music, than tonnes of unfinished, half-done ideas.

Man I swear your always doing stuff that’s similar to where my heads at too! For the same reasons I’ve worked on a few different approaches. One is just releasing tracks as what I call “Beat Sketches” I actually released my 3rd one this weekend and they are always experiments that are just kind of sort of finished and not really mixed and mastered but I may never fully finish them so I put them up on Bandcamp for free and move on to something else. A second approach is simple beat formulas mostly based on a set of gear or apps. So I love the idea of concept albums as well and I have yet to finish one in recent years but my idea is to not base it so much around a grand concept but more around one of these beat formulas / maybe a mood or sound or genre I’m loosely aiming for. Problem is I feel like I have creative ADHD basically so it’s hard to stick with one project for me but in theory if I could just focus I think it would work. My Third approach is very similar to what you showed in this video. And the experiments I’ve tried so far seem like it’s a great option because I’ve liked the results. Basically layer 3 or 4 patches over each other over a set amount of time. I’ve even done this with just eurorack and muted things in and out and changed parameters basically to perform these patches and come out with a song in the end. I’ve been even thinking of grabbing the Jumble Henge from alm busy circuites so the song comes out pre mixed in the stereo field and all I have to do is some small mastering to boost it up and finish it. But you can also do this pretty easy like you kind of did by tracking down one track at a time into a daw, or four track even. I’ve done that as well and it’s very quick, fun and satisfying! This video definitely makes me want to try to put more focus into these approaches. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

I love the idea of doing a concept album based on a musical theme or idea! Damn you've put the idea of concept albums back in my head haha! I totally forgot about the Jumble Henge! Will need to check that one out again. My friend swears by the LRMSMSLR Mid/Side Encoder-Decoder by Worng Electronics. I just want all the gear! lol

Agree, your music on Spotify is very nice but it would be nicer to have more choices :) Also, I don't know if it can help your motivation in any way but a few times when the playlist passed your tracks, my friends turned around and went "who's this? it's nice!" so I guess that even if not perfect your music can still be impressive to who listens! You got this! good luck to you and all the others in the comments with your resolutions!

Not foolproof, but yes, I stopped masterpiece search. It holds us back from output. Once I moved to modular , I’m always doing full mixes so technically just needs computer for sparkle and upload!

The reason I subscribed to your channel is because of the stuff you said at the start of the video about not being able to finish your stuff. I relate to you!! I was looking at your modules and I was wondering, is MATHS a sequencer or like a milti lfo generator?
@TheUnperson2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Maths is kinda like two simple envelopes which can loop to act like LFOs. But it is designed so well that it can also do like 100 other things too :)

This is such a great video! I got a nifty case for effects because of you (already had an op-1 :)). I chose to get a beads module first instead of a data bender and now I see you have a beads, too! I hope you don't mind if my fx rack will look a bit similar to yours in the end ;) How do you like beads? Keep up the good work!

haha cheers man! To be honest I haven't quite sussed Beads out yet! I've not had much time to really sit with it but so far I can't figure it out haha!
