I have a request. If you could highlight on a map the route you'll be taking for that video where you zoom in from where you can see several countries to something close enough so people can better place where the ports are. We Americans are not as well educated as to where other cities are, heck, we often can't even name our own state capitols or point out North Dakota on a map. Anyways, I want to thank you for sharing your journey. I am among the thousands of people who regularly watch your channel you will eagerly await your next video for the next (two years?).
@CatGreatcircle3 жыл бұрын
I can’t point North Dakota out on a map. If I would guess it’s not in the 2 rows from neither the west nor the east. It’s definitely not on the most southern row, neither is South Dakota. I would probably point somewhere west of Illinois not being sure whether it is on the Canadian border. So it might not even be a typical US thing. I does make sense to highlight the general area even though the route is already set out on the GLYWO website and in a previous episode describing the route. I have seen other channels using nice tools to zoom in but haven’t yet found the right option myself.
@greatpix3 жыл бұрын
@@CatGreatcircle Well, I guess since you can't point out North Dakota then Greatcircle won't be sailing there anytime soon. :o)

Beautiful video! I heard the Profurl Spinnex torsion rope/balls is very good, as well as Karver furler. I don’t have any experience with them. Might different equipment like that possibly help? Or do you think it is an issue with how the sail is made/cut?
@CatGreatcircle3 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what we’re trying to find out. The easiest would be if there’s just a way or technique to deal with it. We’re getting a quote from Karver but there’s also a suggestion that a top-down furler could work better for this kind of sail. And yes it could also be the sail in relation to the chosen furling technique. Maybe not even the cut but the tension on the anti torsion rope? Maybe if we let more experienced sailors (at least with this type of sail) give it a try on our boat we get better feedback on the main direction of the issue.

Last AIS update was about 10hrs ago so I would guess you are somewhere near Almeria. I hope you find a solution for that sail problem, I would have stopped using it by now )

@wallysoesman36593 жыл бұрын
wat een feest. helemaal leuk. (code 0 strakker oprollen/inhalen?)
@CatGreatcircle3 жыл бұрын
Ja misschien de gennaker (nog) strakker furlen en ook omlaag trekken maar het lijkt te lang te duren voordat het midden mee gaat draaien. We blijven het gewoon lekker proberen tot we weten aan wie of wat het ligt

The map on the back of the t-shirt makes me think of the map tatooed in the back in the serie prison break...fortunately with the map you won't get lost.😉

It could also be the map in Water World.
@murraywestenskow28963 жыл бұрын
Are other Outremer's having the same sail problem - or - is it related to your custom Great Circle Sail?
@CatGreatcircle3 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what we’re trying to find out as some have had a similar problem as others with comparable experience levels have not. Most have the same furlers and the same sail maker so it’s still possible that it’s just us or that we have to use another technique

De Code 0 is van D4 dus da’s best dik spul. Zo’n downwind gennaker / code D / screecher gaat meer richting een spi en is dan ook van hetzelfde soort materiaal gemaakt.

How can you travel around the world during Covid when pretty much the world is locked down?
@CatGreatcircle3 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty easy, you take #jimmycornell’s book, go out of the marina, hoist the sails and sail predominately west 🤣🤣🤣
@robertlaird67463 жыл бұрын
@@CatGreatcircle Your going to have to stop in different countries along the way to stock up on food and supplies and some countries won't let you in without a two week quarantine like many Caribbean Islands, Australia and some of the South Pacific island nations. I'm in Washington state, USA and I can't travel to Canada right now. The border is locked down.

So far it’s looking good and it’s good to know that we’re the least of a worry for those countries as we’ve all been quarantined on our boats upon arrival
