Class of '22 hiker here. I was successful! 200 days on trail. Here is a mental exercise for you. Close your eyes and imagine a rope tied around your waist. Now this rope is really long. Imagine it going all the way up Katahdin and loops around the sign. It comes all the way back to you. You can use the rope to pull yourself up the climbs. Each morning after packing up and checking your spot for forgetten items, close your eyes and mentally trim the miles of rope that you left behind you yesterday. Each day the rope will get shorter. When you are feeling down and thinking of quitting, think about the rope that won't let you leave the trail until Katahdin! You got this!!! It's 90 percent mental. You will get physical stronger each day. But the mental strength has to be there from the start. You are stronger than you can imagine! Keep heading north!!! 😊

Wow. Thanks so much for this visualization! Perfect for the AT, but I’m going to use this for some personal goals/struggles. Maddie is lucky to have so much support and advice. Thanks again!😊

I started following your journey at about half way to Mount Katahdin. I’m going back to watch the earlier videos. I have watched many of them already. This time I will be taking notes of places I’d like to visit on the trail. As I said once. Your documentation of a through hike of the AT is the best I’ve seen. Thank you.

Well, that’s the first time I’ve heard a thru hiker start their initial vid with a tutorial on the formation of the Appalachians. Indeed, the tectonic plate collision that created Pangea also created the mountains your about to encounter. At their highest they rivaled the Himalayas! Millions of years of weathering and especially the succession of geologically recent ice ages have reduced them to their current grandeur. I’m hoping that you thoroughly enjoy your chosen path through this wonderful example of nature’s glory.

If you are using Farout for navigation, find a spot with water and then camp there instead of the shelters! I avoided the shelters while I was in the bubble last year. Way too many people sleep near the shelters. That means no sleep! Stealth camp whereever you find water and a flat spot until you are out of the bubble.

Don't ever second guess yourself. You have experience and common sense, you will be fine. It appears that you are hiking strong and moving fairly quick. It's a 6 month hike and Katahdin isn't going anywhere. If you want to stop for an hour or two, do it! Take your time and don't miss a thing along the way. This will be fun at times and work at times BUT, every day on the trail is better than a day on the job. You are doing great! Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek

Welcome to Springer Mountain. Maddie the Kentucky Girl. Georgia is now my residence, and has been for a major part of my life. I love watching Appalachian Trail thru hikers, and I find you to be very special. You are a female Daniel Boone roaming the wilderness. Discovering all the nuance of the AT, on your way to Maine. After seeing how you e dressed, I'm giving you the trail name :"RANGER"", I hope you like it?

Hi, I'm thrilled by your trail vlogging format. It's very exciting to follow, please take care on the trail, since I'm following 6 other people who are on the trail mostly in Virginia. I'll be following you trip, as I'll be doing the AT myself in 2025, in the mean time, I've been creating my own thru-hike in my own country of Trinidad & Tobago. Btw the other hikers I'm following are Taylor the Nahamsha Hiker, Stella Hikes, Jordan Hikes, Audrey on the AT, Tristan Pinecone Wanderings, and Bartman Outdoors. They would be good motivation on your evenings at camps, or in a hostel.

I'm curious about you picking your campsite out in the morning and then slowing down to get there in the late afternoon. What is the reasoning for that? When I hiked the AT, we hiked until it was evening and found a flattish spot for a tent before the sun went down.
