This is the ideal tutorial video. Extremely efficient, verbalized everything you were doing, anticipated beginner questions/mistakes. Even had the finished glowforge product video! Keep up the amazing work, this helped me immensely.

I'm not sure why there are any thumbs down? Lots of great tips. Thanks for making this so MUCH easier. You literally covered all the bases to get started.

This was my very first time making something with GF. Your tutorial was very detailed, as well as the one I watched before this to set up AI for the GF. I may note this was also my first time ever opening AI and your video made it very easy to follow along and learn some basics of that as well. Thank you!

I just got a gf and I’m seriously uneducated with computers the gf ui is pretty simple but I’ve been having a hard time figuring out how and what to use for software. Thank you for showing things step by step and explaining so well it is a great help. Subscribed

Thank you so much for creating these tutorials! I received my GlowForge Basic model today! I made one of the test projects they encourage newbies to do, and I downloaded a free file from the forum. But I REALLY wanted to design and laser something of my own. Problem is, I have ZERO design experience. I downloaded Illustrator and literally using only this and your Preset tutorials, designed and made something, just a few hours after turning the thing on for the first time! Can't thank you enough for making something that to me seems very intimidating and break it down in a way that can be followed along so easily!

That's very kind of you to say. I'm still learning, myself.

Whew! I'm learning AI - first time using it - so it was lots of pausing and rewinding. Took me an hour to get through the first 8 minutes, must have watched that part 15 times. BUT - I made my first little silly file, and cut it - and it's going on my wall to remind me how far I've come. Thank you for going through the basics for someone like me!!! Great video!

Wow, that's great! Thanks for the kind feedback. I put this stuff out on a whim and have no idea if it's useful. I think once you get a few techniques under your belt, and remember to think like a computer more than an artist, it all clicks into place. Not to say I don't occasionally spend hours swearing at the thing.

Thank you so much for making this video! Most of the tutorials I was finding were for Inkscape, which I'm not familiar with at all. More than just showing me how to do things in a software I'm familiar with, this video also helped me understand how the glowforge thinks when it's seeing the design. It'll be so much easier for me to find the problems in files, now!

Hey Chris, thanks for sharing I'm trying to create hatch fill paths so my laser will engrave inside of shapes. I don't use a glowforge so I'm not sure if it's the same procedure. Any help is appreciated.

hey I have a quick Question about using illustrator with a glowforge but how you you designated what is a cut, score, etc using illustrator layer by layer
@MarklandDesignsOfAtlanta5 жыл бұрын
could you do a tutorial, I swear you are the most understanding and patient of all the people ive watched on youtube when dealing with the glowforge
@ChrisMasto5 жыл бұрын
If I ever get some free time, I'll try to do more videos. But the simple answer is that cuts and scores should have a stroke but no fill. Engraves should have a fill and no stroke (and I recommend rasterizing them at 600dpi). Glowforge doesn't pay any attention to the layers in your file, the way it separates operations is by color. I recommend using the color palette in my Illustrator Workspace Setup tutorial.

I use LightBurn and have a question for you. When I import the .svg file and run the preview the "fill" section run twice. Any ideas?
@ChrisMasto Жыл бұрын
I'm afraid I don't know anything about LightBurn. If you're sure you don't have any duplicate objects in your file, it's probably best to ask on a LightBurn forum, it's probably something that will be immediately obvious to experts.

depending on the font, mine distorts when I adjust the points. Is there a way to avoid this?

No, I just edited out the boring part of saving the file and uploading it.
