Great tutorial! If i may add one thing: please use distilled water to mist/fog/dunk. Tap water won't kill fungi but it isn't good for it either because of the added chemicals like fluoride. Just a cheap way to get better yields and its like $1-2 a gallon. Same with the cakes. From A/B tests I've noticed faster colonization and larger yeilds with distilled water. Keep it up!

I guess it's possible to grow and multiply cakes end on end, cut them each time into approximately 2x2 inch or bigger cubes and just place them in the wild in moist places, so they can grow on their own? this should also help the mushrooms we want to get a better foothold over time. (I'm talking about oyster mushrooms and such of course 😏)

Thank you for the only well structured tutorial. Question: Can you break up the cakes in order to create a large flat "pancake" in the fruiting chamber? Would it result in more yield?
@mjhenkel19844 жыл бұрын
the hazard of this is when you break it up you break some of the mycelia which has a small but not insignificant chance of allowing contaminants to get hold. you can do it! but it's an opportunity for hazard. ... and as i type this he's scraping his cakes with a fork. go nuts i guess lol.

First of , your videos are very informative and much appreciated for a beginning mycologist. I purchased a mushroom grower beginner kit and it uses the PE TEK method and had 2 quart size jars already filled with sterile substrate. I used one whole syringe of mushroom spores, 12 ML per jar. Was I supposed to use the whole syringe? Its been 30 days and the mycelium almost completely covered the substrate mix. Did it stall? And finally , when birthing the cakes, can i possibly cut the cakes in half and grow them like that, since they are in quart jars ? Hope, I can pick your brain if i have more questions as I can get more into my new hobby
