The child in this old man loves the sounds of those big 16 cylinder diesel engines turning over, waking up and coming to life after a good nights rest. Thank you Nancy for your for your early morning efforts to enjoy the start-up. I know you love those engines too!

I could care less if it's an EMD or GE I love the sound of a locomotive starting up.

Better than a start up … clear blue skies for railroading.

Here is a starting up story, about 6-7 years ago in Montreal a CN crew went to start the day in their top of line GE units on a day where it was -45 C. the GE'S would not start, the mechanics tried, nothing, they got GE and the techs tried, nothing. a yard crew climbed aboard their GP-9, a well aged locomotive and it stated with no trouble as if giggling at the GE's..the GE Tech's were not laughing..

Were you one of the crew?

@@nancyhaun No, this was in Montreal. GE had a hard winter that year while CN kept units idling when not in use.

@@nancyhaun I was a Intern CN car checker in Brookville where they picked up cars loads of bagged lime and bulk lime. I got rides on the train in caboose or engine..

Nice photo shoot intro to the episode Miss Nancy, yeah, start ups are great in the morning. I like it best when operators climb aboard and I hear that ringer Bell just before the turnover prime movers and the Loco caughs into life and starts warming up and building air pressure and what not. I'm sitting at my local spot watching trains and I'll burn one for you Miss Nancy... Very cool. Here at my spot I saw up close a beautiful rebuild of an old jeep Loco that Amtrak owns and I could smell the brand new paint on the color scheme being towed by electric powered passenger Loco. Was very nice as well... 😷🚕🛣️😊✌️🌞

There just is something neat about a startup. Clicking. Whines. Hums. Then that magic moment when it comes to life. Of course on EMD it's just that sound of certainty Andrew liability. A real treat was to hear a Fairbanks Morse startup as it did use a fair amount of battery power and a bit of personal coaxing usually in their later years but once it's settled in it was ready to roll all day. Sadly the buses that were left outside during the winter we're nothing like this as the what's never really warmed up inside and it smells like engine starter fluid the entire trip. SD60s they were not!

Ah yes, spin up the electric fuel pump and pre lube pump if it has it. Wait for the pressures to build up and hit the start button. Once the prime mover is running turn off the electric fuel pump and lube pump. Never gets old. Great video, liked it much. Thanks Nancy!
