Thanks Paul for all the effort you have put into this, just bought my first Waveski, I now know why the sport is so nonexistent, the skis are impossibly unstable, to the degree that I'm contemplating having to build my own. I have been catching heaps of waves in my kayak ( christened the Exxon Valdez ) at Currumbin ( Rees Duncan's back yard ) the stability is phenomenal, but the rails and bottom shape do not make control easy, very jealous of your Macski Dolfin, I would order the longest, widest and thickest they can make.

Hi mate. Yes, balance is a challenge. A wide board with loads of buoyancy is essential to get started. When the sport grows, there will be more beginner boards on the second hand market, but now it's mostly advanced boards. You're mentioning Rees.. he also made a family waveski. Ask him about it. It will be very stable and will also give you more responsiveness than your kayak. My Dolphin is such a great board, perfect combination of stability and responsiveness and ideal for the surf I have over here in the Northsea. Don't keep on struggling with an advanced board and go have fun with a beginner board, it will make you improve your skills much quicker! Enjoy and keep me posted. Regards, Paul

@@StartWaveskiSurfing If I was a younger and welthier man I would be applying to Macski for an Australian agency and bring in container loads. The Dutch sailors of the Batavia built the first building in Australia 1628 at Houtmans Abrolhos WA, the potential for Feature Film, tourism, is boggling, Rees Duncan being a diver, this would be on his list. Check out the story on Defragged History, KZbin, best by far, and even better she is Dutch. The surf in WA is legendary, and mostly deserted.

Thanks for the video; not fair for beginners, they have to learn to paddle strongly, and don't have (dare) the big waves which make it easy to start surfing !

Hey mate, thanks for your comment. This video is for beginners. My point is you indeed should paddle strongly, but NOT wild. Even in smaller waves and when you need more strokes to get into that wave, you keep on paddling strong, with the blades fully submerged in the water. When you paddle wild and uncontrolled, maybe only half of your blades touches the water and this is not really pushing you forward. (Unfortunately I had no good footage available of catching waves in easier conditions).
