Startijenn (energy in Breton) draws the necessary energy out of its roots to create a powerful, efficient, and contemporary sound.
Since its creation in 1997, when the founding members were only 13 years old, the group gave itself a mission: To shake-up festoù- noz and concerts in Brittany, France, and worldwide (Malaysia, Slovakia, Poland, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain).
This band composed of five musicians, fuses traditional instruments (bombarde, binioù, uilleann-pipes and diatonic accordion) with a rhythmic section (bass and guitar) offering very lively Breton music through original compositions. The idea is to absorb all the excitement and enthusiasm let off from popular gatherings, where the dance and music combine into one for the benefit of a collective euphoria. It’s thus by basing itself on this modern tradition that the group expresses itself.
After three studio albums, of which the last two were awarded “Breton music disk of the year”, the group surprised the public in 2012 with El-TaQa, a creation with special guests. A unique encounter that draws the audience away on an Arabic trance with Breton influences. Moments recorded on the live album from Les Vieilles Charrues, Cornouaille, Interceltique, Yaouank... Since then the group has released 2 new albums, of which the latest “Live” disk was recorded during their summer tour in 2016.
Rich from all these experiences and from 20 years on stage, Startijenn is becoming a true “World Music” group.
