You can always tell an owner operator from a lame operator nice to see someone who cares about their machine! I applied for a job once and they were going to try me out I was going out on a Case 590 and I walked over to the machine lifted the side panel off and checked the oil antifreeze belts etc they said I had about 2 hours before I would start so I extended the boom and loader and greased the old girl , I got a phone call the next day telling me I was hired and asked me what I expected for a wage! What won me the position was when I checked the oil I was told later! But if you take care of your machine the machine will take care of you 😀🇨🇦

It only takes something on the machine breaking down and realizing you have an expensive lawn decoration to get you into maintenance. Thanks for watching :)

Used to run a 48 didnt have the the nice electric pony motor. Had a crank down through the hood. If you werent careful it would kick back and throw you over the hood. Loved that thing.

Running a machine that can injure you when you aren't doing it right is good for the soul. Not like these new cars that want to gripe and moan at you when your eyes leave the roadway...

I love that cab style. I use those jiggle siphons also. Great way to transfer fuel. 👍👍👍

Thanks for the kind words. That style of cab seems to be common on the older cats I see. Not that it would roll easy, but I wouldn’t trust it to hold In that event…

As the owner of three 7u’s I can tell this was not your first time being around that machine. That’s the way it’s done. Nice cab too.

what we used to do in the winter is put an electric blanket on the engine over night that only works if you have electricity close by if your big engine is in good shape i would guess it is because i didnt see you spray starting fluid that tells me the engine must be in better shape than most i have seen if your oil pressure guage on your big engine is not working get it fixed that way you can watch it come up when your oil pressure is up on big engine then open the fuel throttle on big engine those pony engines were not designed to run for long periods of time the other reason you need that oil guage is when you are running operating you can know oil pressure not uncommen for oil pressure to be 20 lbs at idle when warm40-60lbs at half throttle or more if its better yhan that you have a pretty good engine

That's a lot of good information. Thank you. The electric blanket trick wouldn't be too practical in our off-grid situation. The people that owned it before we did told me to use starting fluid without warning me about it. They needed it probably because the pony motor fuel system was so gunked up. My kid is going to be taking diesel technology classes, so maybe he can fix the gauge. By then the pony will probably need a rebuild... There are local people who will do an electric starter conversion for $900, but I do like the ritual of the pony motor. I will stop liking it when the pony motor doesn't work. Thanks again for the info.

those engines dont have a oil pump nor do they have bearings just a babbit bearing all they have is a splash stick on the crank no water pump just a boil system once you get oil pressure in big engine open the fuel for big engine and start it

Sometimes in the cold it takes a few extra minutes to get that big boy wanting to go. Seems worse to have failed attempts than to give it the time it needs, but I may be wrong. I can usually tell when it sounds ready, but maybe I'm also wrong and just think I can... :) Also, my gauge needs replacing.

Ya, I agree, it don't take that long to start one, I have a 1955 D4b (7u) , & my dad had a 1946 D4a (2t) , he was 2nd owner of his, & I been around em for well over 40 years, & I know 1st hand it don't take that long to run pony to let big engine to warm up

If it doesn't take you 20 minutes to start your machine...then your machine isn't big enough!
