Those were the days. My dad remembered the therashing days where all the families pitched in and helped. He lived from 1903 to 1986.

When I see these Traction engines at fairs it's such a sensual experience not only seeing these beasts but the hypnotic sounds & the smells, altogether a fantastic step in the development of technology;-- Bravo to the keepers & restorers of our shared heritage!! uk

This machine was also designed to power a thresher which would sit next to it. A thresher is bigger than a tractor.

this Maschine being Not a tractor but a roller conpactor could NOT Drive any attached machinery! IT hasn't got a belt pulley. It's solelymade for compacting road surfaces.

@@ronliebermann Rather Looks Like a flywheel. Rollers simply weren't designed for farmwork.

It was on auction @ Aumann's pre 30's auction. Has a 2 cyl opposed power plant. They had it running, had been sitting a long time previously. Don't know it's history, as I wasn't interested in it myself, but it is impressive. Think it was a Austin Western? If you can view the completed auctions section of Aumann's web site, it may have more accurate info.

To me it looks like a motorized steamroller not a tractor. How good would it be in the fields to tow anything year-round?

Starts in a minute and ready to work. Easy to see that this type machine would replace the steam powered roller. Note that it actually has 4 wheels. The front roller is 2. If it was a single piece the machine would be impossible to steer around a turn. Similar to the action a car differential axle turns a corner.
