I also love the grandma chosen one idea. I think there is a market for it even with the silliness of a middle grade voice. It reminds me of the Lady Trent memoir series as a summary. I have yet to read those yet. I read so much in June and July and now August is slow with reading but that's okay since I am much busier now. My favorite was the Well Met series. I might have said this on a previous video but I finished a rough draft in July!

What a great wrap up! But I’m so sorry about your arm! I hope it heals quickly! 🥰 I’m glad you had a successful move! Love seeing your author set up with your books and that wonderful pile of Squishmallows! I’m obsessed with stuffed animals, so 😂 You know how much I love the concept of BITTER BONES! Also, love the Adult cozy fantasy idea! Definitely send it to your agent sometime. It sounds absolutely delightful! I’d definitely read it! 😍🥰 I do want to tell you something, but I will DM you instead. Hopefully it makes your day! 🥰 I did start querying my PhD dissertation novel on July 1st and so far it’s either been rejections or silence. I don’t mind, though. TV writing is a thousand times worse than this and keeps getting even worse (you can’t query either, I mean, you can, but it’s not common). I know my novel will eventually find a literary agent. I don’t know what my future with TV writing is if I don’t get into these fellowships (haven’t heard anything yet). 😭💔 Doggos are doing okay. Happy Birthday to Maximus! Love that they got a special treat for dinner. 🥹💜

Loved this video as always. Your grandma fantasy story sounds AMAZING. Like the pitch sounds like it would either be a Brandon Sanderson secret novel or a Pixar movie. My month of July has been wild in terms of writing. (For context, I am French, we deal with publishers directly, not with agents.) Not one, but TWO publishers contacted me this month to ask me to write novels for them, because they liked the short story I won a writing contest with last fall! One of the projects is middle grade, the other one is adult, and I can't wait to get started working on them.
@LindsayPuckett2 ай бұрын
oh my gosh Sanderson or Pixar?! that's a massive compliment! thank you! ooh and congratulations! That is so exciting!!!!

Ayeeee, I remember you talking about lovely garden gnome grandma before (you had a super cute picture of her too iirc???). Yay for cozy fantasies! I def want to pick up more of them. June and July had 628293 caregiving appointments, but that’s mostly over so I’ve had to face my ‘nervousness over querying’-induced procrastination to get through my final revision lol. And dhnskskshs getting the word count down over here too lol, mine’s a YA fantasy that ended at 106k initially, I got it to 101k, some beta notes have me right now thinking it’ll end up 103k and I’m gonna wrestle it down to 99k before querying (I know under 105k is prob not autoreject territory for most agents with YA fantasy and is okay, but bleh I know 99k is better for my chances lol). The renovated apartment looks so good! And I’m sorry about your arm. Hopefully recovery isn’t too bothersome! And haksohssk HoTD yes. I adore Rhaenyra with everything in me and I want her to wed two wives and have a peaceful stay on the Iron Throne in the end (unlikely but hey lol). The season finale felt like the second-to-last episode of a season rather than the last, but I still enjoyed it (especially the first half). Okay, you didn’t mean for us to respond to basically everything in the video lol. Love these update videos and rooting for you with your September 1st deadline! 💕
@LindsayPuckett2 ай бұрын
no PLEASE I love a good porky comment! LOL agree about the last HOT D episode. The showrunner said the series got changed from a 10 ep to 8 ep after filming, so I bet anything that the first two eps of season 3 will be what we were supposed to get as the last 2 for season 2! Good luck with your trimming! Yeah, it's always safer in the 5 digit word counts than 6 lol

At what stage (what draft) are you proposing your newest novel to publishers/your agent? I feel like I could work at draft five and still not feel ready to send it in, because I feel it has to be perfect before someone sees it and thinks it could be good enough that someone wants to buy it. My update is that I’ve been querying for eight months with no bites, but one encouraging rejection. I’m trying to draft a new book but have gone through the longest dry spell I’ve ever experienced. I think I haven’t emotionally let go of my previous novel and can’t connect with a new project. I started one but it seemed a bit too “out there” and not commercial enough. I tried a second project this April and now that I’ve sat down to draft, I find myself in no way attached to these new characters. It’s frustrating because I’ve put a lot of brainstorming and research into both of these projects and am still coming up dry. 😔

Writing isn't going super well 😅. My brother and his pregnant wife along with their 3 year old son are staying in our house right now until baby #2 arrives this September. After coming home from work, most of my time is stolen by my nephew where I engage in an imaginative play with him up until 9pm (I don't mind and I want to be an active participant to my nephew's development. Not to toot my own horn, but he likes me far better than his dad 🤣). I know this only scratches the surface, but kudos to the parents who can still write even after hours of playtime with their kids. All i want to do in the end is read a book and sleep, manuscript be damned (for now) 😂.
