I am glad you chose to do it this way! I would not have guessed I would like it this much, but it is so cool to see your thoughts & feelings fresh from having read it. It is making me want to go get my copy & read it again, because it is cool to see it through the eyes of someone from a totally different generation (you are about 40 years my junior.) I am anxious to hear what your conversations with your Dad are like & if he has a different take on things. On a side note, I enjoy when you get "distracted" and show us books etc. Booktube has the coolest people! Thanks for sharing this! It has been about 20 years since I read this, and I actually listened to it as an audiobook. I am wondering if i 'missed out" by not being able to stop & let things sink in...

it would be so cool if you started reading along with us! that would be awesome, and i'd love to hear your thoughts as I'm going along. as far as "missing out", i doubt it to be honest haha. everyone has their own style of reading, and to be honest while i was reading this i kinda had to force myself to relax a little and not take each sentence so seriously hahaha. thanks for commenting - always good to hear from you!

Just found your channel today Matt and am enjoying it thus far! I’ve wanted to read this book for awhile now and I’m slightly late to the party but I think I’ll start it soon and go back and check out these videos as I progress through the book. 🙂 ~Jeff

Matt, don't know if you will see this as you have traveled on, but I did want to make one comment for you to consider regarding the dynamics of family relationships during this time period Steinbeck was writing about and you are reviewing. (I am writing this not having watched your entire video so you may have addressed this later on). It was actually very common behavior during that time. It was better here in America than Britain as they were in the full-throws of the Victorian Age across the pond. Being of pioneer stock myself, in particular, "harsh love" was considered essential if a child was expected to survive all that the "harsh environment" would throw at them. Sadly, though, children still had the same needs and desires we had as children, but had to learn to navigate through it nonetheless. Great video, though. Love the Middle Earth map to your left side!
