Tip Before wasting your time repairing rust figure out what you need to do to mount the cab to the bus frame. You may find that you will need to cut up the repairs if you do them first. You may actually want to leave the bus floor intact and fit the cabin to that junking the truck floor. There’s a guy who’s done a few F100 Crown Victoria swaps where he’s done it both ways , using the car floor and firewall and dash or just using the frame. Both ways he still had to modify the cabin floor etc.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT about repair or replacing the floor and especially firewall. Do all that after the cab is fitted to the bus chassis. There is going to be some cutting.

Im excited for new vehicle on the channel. Congrats! Instead of repairing the cab, maybe mount the cab to the new frame. Incase you might need to chop off the cab to fit. Then end up chopping your repaired sections. Maybe to save time and headache with body work, send it off to get it sand blasted.

Great start, Jeff! I noticed on the steering column was an aftermarket self cancelling blinker switch. Having owned a vintage 1929 Dodge, I can tell you these things are hard to get in any condition. I would urge you to contact a local vintage car club and offer it for sale. They are the ideal solution to put blinkers on cars that weren't designed for them. Cheers, mate, can't wait to see progress on Effie.

Jeff - I see a progression here: small sports cars, small sport sedan, big truck, next is tank (with Aus Armor???) 😁 Although body looks to be in good shape, the real test will be what it looks like after being media blasted. My bet is there is a whole lot more hidden rust through not showing yet. Still, all in all, for a body that old on a work truck that was shown no love, it is in great shape. Looking forward to this build and all the new tools you are going to get.

Hi Jeff from Long Island, NY... I have a 1946 Dodge WC pickup truck... years ago I saw a video of a guy that built a rolling wood frame and set the cab on that... he even made it so it would tilt while on the frame so it could be worked on underneath. Very... very useful. And can easily be rolled out of the way when working on your other projects. Cheers.

Personally, i would lift the bus body and see what needs to be done to fit, using the bus floor which is newer and should be both stronger (for walking on, not just resting your feet on) and already part of the chassis on top. That way you could maybe channel and drop the cab, potentially saving yourself a ton of work....
@RobCantle
@RobCantle 3 ай бұрын
I was one of those weirdos that had a Coaster as a motorhome. Not sure if what you suggested would work. The Coaster cab has the Engine basically sitting beside the driver. It has an access panel to do work and servicing that sits over the top of the engine, so not sure if the floor from the Coaster would help. Unless I’m missing your point lol.
@CC-mb8fi
@CC-mb8fi 3 ай бұрын
@RobCantle i am suggesting to lift the bus body first Then place the Ford cab By cutting the cab floor out - the engine would be under the bonnet and the driver back, you may be able to use some of the newer bus floor instead of rebuilding Ford floor. Obviously you are going from engine beside to engine forward of driver. The possible floor section you may be able to use is already crafted and molded for the bus chassis. It may be possible to channel the Ford cab so it sits lower on the canter chassis. So it may be a thought to lift bus body before repairing Ford cab. That could open up something completely different to what one planned.....

You may want to wait on ordering patch panels until you've had a chance to test fit the truck cab on the bus frame - some parts of the floor, the lower edge of the back of the cab, etc. may have to be modified to the point where the patch panels won't be used. Also, I'll bet the truck had a 6 volt system, so the original horn may sound like a wounded goat when connected to 12 volts. 🙂
