Thank you! I am relatively still new to Java and frameworks in general, and this was extremely helpful. After hours of going through old tutorials and not getting anywhere, this just made everything click. Outdated tutorials aren't just a Vaadin issue though, a couple other things I tried had the same issues.

Hey, I very like your tutorial and try it out by myself! Every Time I start the Application I get an error message "Unable to initialize Vaadin DevModeHandler". I've already searched for that problem, but no chance at the moment! Has anyone the same error message?

Live Reload is not working. I'm using IntelliJ Ultimate Edition. The dependency is there, but I can't figure out, why its not working. Do you have any idea?

Hi Marcus, I'm a Java backend developer and I'm not very expert in web programming (eg. using Angular). I'm looking for a frontend framework/tool as close as possible to Java and Vaadin seems one of the good choice. I am able to build a RESTful webserver (using Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, etc.) but now I would like to build also my own frontend, trying with Vaadin. First of all, is it advisable to work with two separated projects (one for backend and one for the frontend UI created using Vaadin)? Modern webapps/single page application, have often a sidenav or a fixed menu at the top of page etc...is it possible to manage this with Vaadin? How is it possible to manage the routing? Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of example projects, forum, tutorials about Vaadin. Most of them explain only the basics or a little more. Thanks a lot.

Hi Andrea! I would recommend starting simple: maybe having separate modules for the frontend and backend within the same project. Later, if needed, you can split them out into separate projects. We have an AppLayout component that does exactly what you're looking for: a sidebar nav that hides on narrow screens. We're right now working on creating a comprehensive tutorial that covers all aspects of building a Vaadin app from importing the project to deploying it. You may already find some useful tidbits in the code while we're working on the text/video content github.com/vaadin-learning-center/vaadin-crm-tutorial
