Starting a PHOTO PROJECT? Do these 5 THINGS FIRST!
Are you thinking of starting a PHOTO PROJECT? Before you get started use my five step method to successfully begin. Starting a photo project can be a great way to document your life and your journey. It can also be daunting not knowing where to start or how to implement an idea. But before you get started, make sure you do these 5 things first. Kirk, Great topic for a video! What I would do would be to use film only (B&W), several film speeds (1600 for inside the shops), and compare the differences and advantages film may have over digital. The challenge for me would be to approach this the way someone in the 1940s, and 1950s would shoot these scenes and go after that look. You have the Leica M5 and tripod just waiting to be used! Composition would be at the forefront since you wouldn't have the luxury of drastic Photoshop digital edits. I also like your idea of using prime lenses only. Looking forward to the results no matter which direction you take. Jerry

Another great video Kirk, you’re on a bit of a tear lately, and timely as I was only thinking about personal project two days ago after watching the b&h video with Chris Sorensen about his personal project "Wife During Quarantine” I feel the need to branch out and try something new , my photography is currently walled in, reduced to client work and the occasional photos of my family at events. Anyway, my question I guess is what is the creative spark that starts off a photo project for you? I feel the need for inspiration to kick start me…

Ben - My ideas often come from when I am just out shooting on a walk or to a specific place. I was at my dog groomers when I saw the beautiful light on the street I am currently doing a project on.

One more question: Is it worh the effort and what do expect to get? Sometimes a project is just a learning experience but this is also something every photographer needs to wet his feet. Just dont be too disappointed about it.

This is the way I look at it. Everyone of these personal projects is a learning experience in one way or another. So it is always worth the effort.
