Starting A Travel Journal

I am so happy that I finally started my very first travel journal! This has been a project that I've wanted to start ever since I completed Inktober. I loved the daily commitment of that drawing challenge, but couldn't find the time to keep it up. A travel journal seemed like the perfect solution for me. With just a few simple art supplies (listed below) and a bunch of memories from our travels in Barcelona, I spent a few hours making my first entry. I have admired so many other people's art journals and travel journals for months now and am so happy that I have one of my very own. Journaling is such a great way to reflect on experiences, get your creative juices going, and I think that this will be the perfect addition to my van life experiences through Europe.
This Travel Journal series is going to be kind of like a visual podcast so if you have any ideas for topics I can chat with you about in the future please leave a comment :)

I am only 12 and my dad was in the military so we got to travel all over the world and my mom always says that lots of people can't leave their country and she says to be great ful for it and I have not traveled for 5 years❤️ I am so happy that you got to travel 👍❤️😍

I think this was my favourite video on YT ever. Don't be embarrassed about your voice overs, I love them! I do artjournaling and bulletjournaling aswell and I have done some oil paintings in the past but I really want to go back to more painting with both oils and watercolours. I have plenty of space in my apartment but still... who doesn't dream of 'a big art studio with lots of plants and natural light'! I dream of doing van life with my husband aswell but we have some way to go. It's nice to see how you are able to travel journal with all these materials... I was kind of expecting I had to scale down my art supplies big time if we want to travel. I would be interested in a video where you show your art supplies and how you keep them in the van!

Your scrapbook reminds me of Ellie’s scrapbook in the wonderful animation movie “Up”. Even your close loving relationship reminds me a bit like that story with Carl and Ellie and their dream to live at Paradise Falls. Nice scrapbook by the way. But one drawback is how much books weigh (even if living in a small apartment, let alone a van). I was so happy when I discovered an entire library, art studio, notebook, diary, video and music studio can all be contained on an iPad and weigh almost nothing inside a backpack. Even no problem cutting, pasting images in exactly the same way you’ve done your scrapbook, even pieces of “tape” (virtual) can be applied to add a similar home made effect.

Couldn't agree more!! Just keep going and you'll slowly get the hang of it :) I also really recommend trying to make some time to just draw with pen whatever you're ultimately trying ot paint (portraits, landscapes, still lifes) just because it can be a great way to get the basics down. Loved the voiceover and I sooo wish I was a good drawer like you,...I love keeping mementos for my (always too few) travels and I used to put them into a notebook...but I've lost the inspiration and lots of my more recent keepsakes are stored without the order they deserve...an imminent trip to my beloved London and a Moleskine travel book kindly gifted by a friend are definitely giving me the desire to finally put together those memories and keep track of the new memories I'll be making in future travels (which is why I'll probably also buy another moleskine for the old travels lol) ... thanks for the video xx

Lou what a great decision to have a big book to capture all the memories! The first entry was amazing and clearly provides a path for all of us to take the step to begin capturing our travel memories. Personally find this less intimidating then just a written journal...drawing, scrap booking.. plus words may just be the trick for me to capture our trips on the boat. Personally, what made the video perfect was near the end. I love that you don’t show only perfection but you show vulnerability and imperfection. Isn’t that what art truly is, after all.
