I think what most people don't realize is how much work, HARD WORK, goes into starting a business. When you work for other people it's easy to look at the boss and think "I can do that" and then you realize all of the unseen stuff the boss goes through to keep work coming in

For sure. Definitely isn’t easy

I have a feeling OP's relationship didn't work out due to the stress of the business. "Me and my brother-in-law at the time" is very telling. :(

I do a little of both? I make some cabinets and do finish carpentry/ contracting? I found with my tool investment and vehicle ( 2020 3/4 ton Van) I did not want thee added burden of a shop? So I do kitchens , doors, window installations , base, some crown and stick with my small garage shop and do house calls ! For now ! It’s hiring help? That is a real twist !
@NE_woodworks7 ай бұрын
Oh that’s cool. I used to work for a guy who did both as well
@zephyr14087 ай бұрын
@@NE_woodworks if you think about it we hv the talent to do both ? Once you can build cabinets and work with the tolerances you can set doors , make doors, install windows , stair treads, risers , base? If you can make cabinets & install them your 10,000 miles ahead of the game! And it’s darn good money! Just something you can stick in your back pocket ! Of course I am a lot older than you but as far as the physical part ? Totally good for you and your mind ! You keep working hard and you will provide a great living for those you love !

I think there are some important things you didnt mention regarding starting a business, any business for that matter. You recently made a large move from a north eastern state to a north western state. But some research into the particular location you chose will show a major reason why your business will be successful provided you do your part. And that reason is that you chose a very affluent area to set up your business. There are other reasons as well, low crime rates being another very important one, as well as the numbers of people moving into the area as opposed to moving away from the area. Fact is that affluent people are willing to spend money on things that make their life more pleasant. Whereas those who struggle just to exist, dont have that luxury. So that means that those who provide services, be it remodeling homes or mowing lawns, will have a good opportunity to have a good income. As the late great Rush Limbaugh said, dont be afraid to relocate if you want to be successful. And dont let family issues make the decisions for you.

Yeah you’re right. There are a lot of things that I didn’t touch on. But will in the future. You made a lot of good point.

I moved from CA to ID. I’m going to build another shop to work out of. I’m undecided about a separate spray room. What size is your room? Too small , too big? I thought about using those curtain walls.
@NE_woodworks7 ай бұрын
The spray room is 12 x 17. Its a comfortable size space
