The initial training of a young or green horse over jumps will have a big impact on how easy and safe they are to jump. In this video, I share several key objectives of a horse's early jump training as well as the basic progression of exercises that will help a horse learn to jump safely and effectively.

A good tip to keep in mind is working the horse on the ground with jumps then once your horse gets comfortable jumping on the ground then you can get on the horse and try it out

This is good! I’m re-training my horse to ride and I looking forward to jumping her because my other horses don’t jump and she’s the only one that can but she’s not rides often! Not only that but she’s 13 hand pony! Im in 7th grade and 90 pounds! I know a lot of adults might say I cant do it but I know I can!

i recommend walking, trotting and cantering to a jump without the poles so they can get used to those big tall things, if you want to you can also free jump the horse a few times before you actually ride the jump. that can help insecure horses alot, and you can see how your horse jumps, when doing that you can see if your horse maybe overjumps, refuses or just runs trough the jump. if you jump him or her without knowing whats hes likes you could (almost) fall and scare the horse. some horses get so scared that they dont even want to get near the jumps because they are scared that there will be a human hanging on his neck again.

Check the fit of your saddle. Make sure you have a soft contact over the fence especially on the landing side go back a step to where you get a 'yes' answer then build up slowly from there over several days - they need sleep to help process negative stuff - always finish session on good note with them not too tired - keep jumping sessions short, 20 mins schooling 5-10mins jumping 4-5 obstacles rest - repeat. video yourself of have someone watch you

Caelan Rairdan i guess this is very late but, lead them over, lounge then over and do ground training over it to show them it's ok to go over it. Some horses have bad experiences, so just really praise them. I'm only 13😂 but hope this works

- maybe a problem in their right leg - maybe you don't have them turn right often enough - maybe you put more weight on your left side than your right side - maybe you like them counterclockwise too much - maybe I'm wrong

Ok, someone help me here. My friend says horse riding is NOT a sport because 'the horse is doing all the work'. Can someone please explain why horse riding IS a sport. Thank you
@endowolf6750
@endowolf6750 8 жыл бұрын
+Horsey Lovers It is communication between you and the horse. You both reach a mutual understanding. You are both doing the work. It uses the human body for athletic activities such as two point, jumping, etc. There are also many competitions. I did my best I'm only 12
@lizhadley3803
@lizhadley3803 8 жыл бұрын
Horseback riding is a sport for several reasons. Contrary to what your friend said, the horse is NOT doing all the work. A competent rider uses many muscle groups to stay balanced on a horse and to cue the horse to move forward, sideways, or slow down. The core and leg muscles, especially, are used to maintain a good position on the horse. Also, horseback riding is a good cardio workout. My heart rate definitely goes up when I am riding, and it's not just from excitement. It takes a lot of effort to move in rhythm with a horse. For instance, posting to the trot is like doing squats over and over again. Finally, horse riding can be a competitive sport in both English and Western riding, although not all riders compete. Some people just ride for pleasure, such as trail riding, but that also requires some amount of physical fitness.
