love that your using a breed to the heavier side. In my experience with heavier horses people seem to think they cant do they same riding as other breeds. which is false obviously, they are great riding horses :)

Ok, this explains why horses don't just jump out of their fields. I never knew jumping was so foreign to horses. You did well to train the horse in only 8 minutes.
@Theorimlig8 жыл бұрын
Typically, fences are built higher than the horses can jump. And they're often electric, as well. Those are probably the primary reasons. :P

Congratulations. At 5 yo Flora is still a young horse so to start working on jumps with her at 4 yo and have her up to 50cms a year later is fantastic. Its great to use positive methods on training. I came across a lot of horses that just wouldn't jump so their owners got them "TRAINERS" I've seen trainers treat horses badly making jumping unpleasent. Thats how I would train my horse (I dont have one but thats how I imagine it) short learning sessions treats and fun thats how every horse should be learning things.

What a beautiful video! Not only the interplay between rider and horse, but the cinematography as well! Many shots are really vivid and nice, that's something entirely different from the long and rainy winter we've gotten used to seeing! Ireland seems like a place best visited in summer. I don't ride myself, but recently graduated from my high school education in agriculture. The school is a farm and for a long time only agriculture was taught there, but most students now study riding or harness racing. So a lot of my friends are horse fanatics. Seeing draft-type horses like Flora is a lot more interesting than the standard-bred race horses I've gotten used to. Ever since I was a kid I've been fond of the Norwegian Fjord Horse, especially. Seeing you training Flora to be able to tackle different kinds of tasks is really interesting, even for us non-riders!
@WayOutWestx28 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Theodor - it was a nice video to make (though it took a long time). The first horse I learned riding on was a Fjord pony and I will always have a soft spot for them. Cobs are similar - small and strong and great temperaments, and up for all sorts of things (not like those silly prancy racehorse types!)
@kyahsanders74616 жыл бұрын
This is amazing! I've just recently got an Arabian Shetland pony, and he seems to enjoy jumping, but inside of the arena, he refuses. But thanks to this video, I understand why he won't jump in the arena. It is because he notices the arena as a place to work, though we usually play together on the ground. So, I've learned that I need to have extreme patience with him, and allow him to slowly and confidently work his way to learning to jump. Thank you so much!

This video is AMAZING! I absolutely adore you and Flora as a team! Back in Feb 2019, I purchased my first horse by myself. I had been preparing for a horse for 3 years before then! When I brought him home, I realized that he needs to come a long way to be able to do the things that I wanted to do with him, but I wanted to make sure he loved to do them just as much as I did! At first, he was the most stubborn and lazy horse ever. Baxter didn’t want to go anywhere or do anything! We worked and worked on that, and it’s finally gotten so much better. He still needs a bit more work on that, but I think he is ready to learn beginner jumping! One day I hope to do fun show jumping, cross country, and maybe even hunter paces! This video will help me out so much, THANK YOU!🥰💕🥺

i love how nice and careful you are wit Flora. I am planning to buy my first horse this summer (a friesian), and i was wondering how tall are you and how tall Flora is, as i am not very well known with height. And do you think that if the horse is 16.2 hh (about 164 cm) is ok for a rider that is 167 (or something close)?
@WayOutWestx28 жыл бұрын
How exciting to get your first horse - wishing you all the best! I am just under 170cm, and Flora is 14.2hh, and I find we fit together well. I would feel that a 16.2hh horse would be rather big for me personally, but it depends on what it is you want to do with him. He’d be better at jumping larger things of course. As you may know, it’s not so much the height of the rider that matters for the horse, it’s the rider’s weight, level of fitness, ability to keep a balanced seat, and riding skills....

- I KNOW THIS VIDEO IS OLD - My horse had an injury at her past home and she now has became very scared even go over things even just a pole in trot. We have worked with her to help her not be scared anymore. This method worked very well (and is still working) especially the part where we did some groundwork to help her. My friend wanted to help her jump and tried to rush her straight away, I said no and I showed how she was scared and not being “naughty” she understood and we started from the beginning. Since she was so terrified we had put some poles in her field for a while so that she was not scared and was comfortable around them.
