I just got into Bonsai and it’s true what you said. Their is something special about growing it then just buying it. I guess because you’re in the journey with then from seed to fully grown.

so true, Terrence mcKenna talks about when you grow psychedelic mushrooms you gain the same wisdom from cultivating and taking care of them as you do when you eat them later. In the case of the acacia it contains a large amount of dmt too.

@@anarchist_parable update 2yrs later. The ones I started from seed died lol. My first time getting into it. I’m guessing I didn’t properly winterize them. Some made it but following year they didn’t make it. I at least have an appreciation of time love and work it goes into it. Still recommend you experience from seed first. Getting them to adult was hard though for me. I’ll give it another shot someday but I did buy a grown one and having fun with that one, pruning it and shaping it. Creating a landscape feel to it. That part I’m enjoying.

I've just collected some baby acacias and put it overnight in water. Pity sometimes they lose so many roots in the pulling that they don't survive. Nice to see you that touched with the gift, Nigel! It's very interesting that either Acacias or Jacarandas grow in this same southern latitude as it is Nico's and mine: SouthAfrica and Argentina. Sending seeds abroad is not that easy here (you need to fill in a lot of documents) but I'll see if i can send you something! You're always an inspiration, Niegel. Nice to follow your work.

I'm pretty much willing to bet money that is what we know as a camelthorn tree. Its a very sought after tree and it's illegal to cut them down becausethey grow so slowly but the seeds you can pick up the the millions under a single tree. In the wild they grow very slowly but if you plant them and give them normal water they grow surprisingly quickly. I planted about 20 around my farm and some of them grew more than a meter in 1 season.

My trident maples, sugar maples, norway spruce and a lone common juniper have all been grown from seed. I find it a lot more enjoyable than buying young trees, but there's also plenty of frustration too! Just started another attempt with various pine seeds (Austrian black, Mugo, and Stone pine), not had much luck the last few times.

+Mikey Dunn Whenever I'm out for a walk, I look for seeds on suitable trees for bonsai, most don't make it to a bonsai tree, but every now and then, one makes it. That one little success, keeps me planting seeds! I planted about 100 Chinese elm seeds and got one that sprouted last spring. It's going into year two and looking good so far. Not the Elm forest I imagined, but it will do!

@tfoot995 жыл бұрын
Hey! The scarification of seeds is supposed to be done on the round side, at least this is the way I do it ! The round side makes the ends of the first leaves the plant uses to start growing. If you scar these, the only thing it might do is they maybe a little smaller, but if you touch the root beginning, this might not even have the seedlings sprout at all. Just wanted to share some knowledge, and please correct me if I'm wrong !!

I am using 1/2 perlite and 1/2 turface. I will also add 10 to 20 percent composted pine bark. All the materials are sifted to remove the fine particles, so I get 3 to 4 mm particle size. This soil requires careful watering and fertilizing as it can dry out fast on a hot dry day.

Does this cutting method apply for other Acacia seeds eg Acacia mangium
@TheBonsaiZone5 жыл бұрын
Any seeds that have a water proof coating will need to have the outer layer scratched to let the water soak into the seed. I'm not sure about Acacia mangium, but I don't think it would hurt to scratch the outer layer of the seed just in case.
