@@kyuzobrazilianjiujitsu476 Thanks for the support do you prefer Gi or no Gi ? Getting used to someone rang dolling you around in a Gi is though. we did a full hour session of sparing the other day… will say this thought recovery as an older person is a lot harder😂

I'm 45 and I'm thinking of starting jiu jitsu after the covid. I've been doing Muay Thai for about 9 years and I want to mix it up with other martial arts. As I get older I don't want to get hit in the head so much. lol

@@oryan2235 True, but if the goal is longevity, and you're older, then over-exposure to smashers isn't the best move

I won't say I started in my 30's. I'll say I started taking seriously in my 30s. I actually started grappling in the military, been doing different martial arts my whole life. But 35 is when I knew I could be good at it. Still a white belt, and in the best shape of my life.

Yo! Your belt is tied to the wrong side. 🤦🏻
@kyuzobrazilianjiujitsu476
@kyuzobrazilianjiujitsu476 2 жыл бұрын
That's funny Michael. I have never heard of a right or "wrong" side to tie your belt on until about a month ago. It seems to be something the internet decided was important a few weeks ago and now you've a bunch of people who seem to think it's something to do with which side the Samurai used to sheath their sword or something. Sounds questionable to me. And even if it's true, which I doubt, it seems sort of like which side your dessert spoon should face on a dinner table, or which is the fish fork. My answer is that I've trained with some of the biggest names in Jiu Jitsu, and not one of them has ever cared which side I, or they, have tied their belt. But if one of them tells me I'm doing it wrong, I'll listen.

You can start BJJ over 30 but the question is will you win the answer is probably not you may enjoy being choked unconscious I believe there's a word for that, I've got to ask the people who are older and you say fight in the age category are you patronising them are you pittying them 🤨

I started in April with a new group of beginners all in there late teens twenties and thirties. We've just had our club graduation and promotion week. I was the only one in our group to get two tabs. I'm 51. I've fallen in love with the sport. Wisdom is the difference I believe. I know my limitations, I tap early in practice, I have already got a tailored sparring style using half guard top game and bottom, closed guard or seated with an emphasis on butterfly guard. The over aggressive youngsters just get slowed right down or swept. Heavy connection game and you never loose your strength in grips and hips so I wear them out and frustrate them with defensive BJJ. You are never too old to start.🤙
