It would be more interesting if we knew what and why each maintenance procedure was being performed. If there is a lot to be done then make two episodes. From the exterior shots it’s so amazing to see this small cockpit and its ability to control this ultra huge plane. Bless them all for keeping us safe.

I maintained these in the USAFR for nearly 16 years, they're impressive, maintenance heavy planes. They're a nice ride (unless you're going to someplace unfriendly for a deployment) Also...you need 6 not 7 jacks to lift it (4, 60 ton, 2, 30 ton) A manifold does the lifting hydraulically, no hand pumping. Hand pumping is just to seat the jacks. You also need 9 people (1 per jack, 1 supervisor, 1 manifold operator and 1 watching a plumb bob hanging in the cargo box with a scale on the floor in a roller track to advise the supervisor that the plane is getting wing or tail heavy and to correct it. The sound of the old TF-39's was awesome to hear.

I was a active duty DCC on A models at Travis AFB and work them on them on the Enroute ramp at Clark AB, Philippines back in the 80's and early 90's. Thank you for service! I was at Travis in 1983, when 68-216 landed with the gears up. I was part of the FOD walk on the runway the next day. The video is good but there are a few errors in the captions, such as the Cargo Compartment being behind the cockpit. We know it below the whole flight station and the troop compartment. The producer of this video has good intentions, but the translation of some of the maintenance activities are not correct! Aim High!!

I was a Crew Chief on C-5A's at Travis AFB, CA and also worked on them when I got stationed at Clark AB, Philippines. I was engine run qualified on the A/B models. There is no better feeling than the nose landing gear strut compressing when you push the throttle up to full power. Those GE TF39's are still my favorite engine sound.

I was a loadmaster at Travis for over 12 years and was assigned to the 75th. I have very fond memories of this airplane and enjoyed my entire time assigned to Travis. I was blessed with the task of picking up a brand new airplane at Lockheed around 1988 or 1989 time frame and picked up 87018 from the factory. Nothing liker the new car, scratch that, new plane smell! That airplane could do anything!

While serving in the Army, I was assigned to the Night Stalkers NSDQ! Many of us attended a four-week class on Hazardous Cargo and Loadmaster certification. Believe me, you could not fall asleep in class because at the end of the course, taking the test, you must test out with 100% on both tests or fail the courses. All of our set-ups were done on paper diagrams, no computers. To make it easy for me, I got copies of the C-5, and C-130 interior floorplan mainly. It was challenging but you were in control of the loading. Yes, the aircraft Loadmaster was watching as well.

@sydneymyers1281 Жыл бұрын
Some of the information in the subtitle are incorrect. We did use tripod jack to perform wheel maintenance, we used axel jack and can also individually kneel each main landing gear to do that.

Years ago, I was driving north on I-75 from Atlanta to my home. Rush hour, stop (mostly) and go. We were directly in line with the southeast-facing end of the runway at Dobbins AFB in Marietta, 3-4 miles away. Suddenly the entire horizon seemed to lift as one of these monsters left the runway and flew directly over us. Interstate. Rush hour. We all got out of our cars to watch. Damndest thing I ever saw.
