For me, I wouldn't follow on Patreon because I'm a really broke retail worker, lol. I like watching your videos on KZbin - I enjoy your content! I've bought a couple of your patterns, too, and I look forward to any others you plan to release. That's how I'd prefer to support, even if it doesn't seem like a lot. Others may feel differently, of course. I'll let the ads play! 😊

Thank you so much for all the work you put into your channel. I absolutely love your content and the sew alongs that go with your patterns. Thank you for reminding me that letting the videos play is a way to directly help you. I admit I forget and just skip them. I will definitely let them play in the future. I look forward to your weekly content, and would be disappointed with less of them. I’m not a fan of patreon, but you do whatever is best for you and your channel, as long as you keep doing videos. I will continue to support you in the future. Thanks again and HAIL STATE!😊

Wow, thank you so much, Raquel!! That is so generous of you, much appreciated. I'm so glad to know how much you enjoy the channel. It makes my day! I really do love doing this and feel grateful every single day that I've been able to make a living doing it ❤️ also: please don't feel obligated to watch the ads, haha...I skip ads, too! They can be a little obnoxious at times! I only mention it to let people know that I do make money from the channel (I think that part can be a little mysterious if people aren't sure how KZbinrs make money). Thank you again for the support, and GO DAWGS! ;)

I really enjoy your channel and your patterns. I like the idea of Patreon with a few small bonus features. The idea of prerelease patterns ‘without all the instructions’ is a pretty neat idea. I actually don’t like the Patreon platform for viewing videos.. I usually just watch them on KZbin with the ads anyway. I would like to support your channel in a way that’s easy for me and profitable for you. I look forward to whatever you come up with.

Oooohhhh Teracotta is so gorgeous! It's such a specific shade of golden red-orange. I watched a tour of a historic Teracotta studio in Italy, they still produce Teracotta today and since... sometime crazy like 1600s. The color just 🙀 makes me swoon!

Then I have some lovely soft tan and cream plaid that i want to use a larger version of your pattern for a jacket. I have lost a lot of weight and I have nothing to wear this fall to church if I dont get on it!! I would make the pheasant (sp?)blouse and dress right now if I had it. Please put it out soon. I love the idea of no ads viewing, but my limited budget will not allow any additional subscriptions, including Patreon. 😢 Although, I do confess that I don’t really know how Patreon actually works, so maybe my opinions here are misguided. As a creative person, I understand what goes into developing, designing, and producing products and content, and I think you ought to do what’s right for you and whatever will support your success and growth. But, as a consumer with limited resources, I have to consider what my few dollars a month will provide me. A subscription to Craftsy, for example, provides me with endless 24/7 content. But, maybe I’m speaking out of turn, since as I said, I don’t actually know how Patreon is structured. I do so love your patterns and videos, and that will continue no matter what. 💖

Hi Casey, with streaming services across the board going up along with other necessities, I prob would not be able to join you on Patreon right now. I believe you deserve to make a living at this, I love your videos and look forward to them every week as a Saturday morning ritual. 😊 I know they are a lot of work, would you consider having a Koffi account so we can give you something when our budget allows instead of a monthly auto deduction for Patreon? Thank you for your easy-breezy style. So relaxing to watch you. 😊

I like the thick strap where they put in 1 1/2” elastic to gather the strap. The strap width is the same was the elastic sort of like a flat scrunching. This would be for the Tera cota dress. The strap is not necessary stretchy, just for the look. Also your hair looks great ❤

I literally just found your channel yesterday from an amazing tutorial you did for your button down shirt pattern. I’ve been trying to figure out how to sew the collar and facings on a vintage dress pattern that gives zero explanation in its instructions. So many of the vintage patterns I have give little to no detail on the hard parts- I think people just had so much more general knowledge on garment construction back then they left a lot out? At least that’s what it seems like anyway? So when I saw the clip of you trying on the vintage pattern in the beginning of the video I couldn’t believe my luck! Please let us know what you did to alter the design and how it turned out!! You’re a wealth of knowledge and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your videos and try out your patterns! Thank you so much! As for Patreon- I’ve never participated in supporting an artist before because I’m basically too poor to afford to do so right now- but $5 a month would be reasonable especially if you put out some longer videos with details of the how’s and why’s of your techniques. I’m sure I could support you even if you didn’t- do whatever you’re comfortable with. But I’m sure I’m not the only one that would find a great deal of value in sew-alongs that included in-depth details of everything from start to finish. Again, either way I think your videos are amazing and I look forward to seeing more from you!

Patreon isn’t a runner for me I’m afraid - every single one of our obligatory bills are still increasing, so I’m not looking to spend additional money. Unfortunately it’s going the Patreon way with a lot of the channels I subscribe to, too. So if I WAS to start paying for content, I’d be thinking long and hard about which ONE of all the channels I’d support - it most certainly wouldn’t be a clear cut choice. But no, I’m not looking to start paying for access I’m afraid.

Love the linens and am looking forward to seeing the dresses. I support a number of people on Patreon. Generally I do it because I want to support them rather than for any bonuses. But it's always nice to get extra content. I pay KZbin so never see ads and thus wouldn't get any great value from watching on Patreon. Pattern-lite is a good idea, and also extra content. I think that doing both channels well would be a good deal of work and quite a big commitment,even if you do cut down on YT, and there is a risk that the pressure could compromise something that's working really well. Only you will know if you have the time and energy to take on the additional commitment.

Hate to say I don’t mind the ads on YT, but you are so (sew!) enjoyable to watch, I’d follow you to Patreon if you went. IMHO, you need an agent to get you a show on tv! Have you tried a ruffler foot for gathering? It’s one of my favorite methods, but I have to remember to write down my settings to determine the approximate ending length. I don’t know if one is available for your modern machine, but I have a couple for my vintage and antique machines, so maybe one would be available for your Kenmore? I made your Flora dress out of an army green linen and it came out great! I’d do the Patreon thing.

Is a ruffler foot different than a gathering foot?
@daxxydog5777
@daxxydog5777 Жыл бұрын
@@PatternScout Oh yes, it’s more of a contraption than a foot! It has a lot more adjustments that can be made. I have one for my 1907 Singer 27 and one for my 1962 Rocketeer. It was a very common attachment back in the day. Think about the yards and yards of gathering on all those dresses! Our ancestors weren’t stupid. No one wanted to run gathering stitches on all that. It makes pleats every 12 stitches, 6 stitches, or every stitch.

For Patreon, I suggest a single tier with the lowest possible monthly charge because most of your audience follow multiple providers. For content, I suggest thinking deeply about what forms of communication and engagement Patreon can offer that your website and KZbin channel can't. Content and connection will be successful if they are a good fit for the format, and will seem forced or will ultimately not succeed if they are contrived or if they duplicate what you are already offering in other places. In other words, keep it inexpensive, keep it simple, and keep it a good fit for the medium. Thanks so much for your generous and extremely high-quality teaching!

I believe Patreon offers a live chat feature which could be informative and fun. It would give people the opportunity to ask questions about a pattern or technique. They also have polls so you could give patrons a choice in what they would like to see for your next project, how-to video, etc.

Actually, my patterns are available in 3 cup sizes (including C Cup). And I have tested the patterns with a variety of body types to cover the size range. I provide size charts and garment measurements on each pattern listing on my website to help with choosing a size. It sounds like you may need to grade between sizes for the bust/waist which is very common with garment sewing and something that I give guidance on in the pattern instructions. Hope that helps!

I’ve tried quite a few of her patterns and they are very spot on for finished garment measurements, so it may just be that you do need to grade/adjust for your tummy. I haven’t made anything of hers that was tight fitting, but I have the same issue on any fitted bodice garment.

Can't believe we have to wait until next week to see the dresses!! 🤪😉 Gives me something to look forward to 🎉 I might consider the patreon! You could make it work for you by getting feedback on how the pattern fitting across the sizes..??? Enjoying your new format too! 👍🏻 Noticed it in the last video. 😊

I like the idea of a Patreon especially the advance access to beta patterns. Extra content I would be interested in: going more in depth on what machine feet you find most useful and what you use them for, looking at your most used notions and what you don't find useful, sew alongs with some of your patterns, special 'how to videos' for your patterns like you did with the Byrdie Button Up (that was so helpful for me!). I've enjoyed and learned from all your videos so you seem to already know what people want to see. Can't wait for the blouse pattern. It is one that will look flattering on any figure.

Thank you for the ideas! All of these would also be good KZbin content! :)

I really like the patreon idea I would like the ability to make your patterns up early. I’ve been sewing for more than 30 years, so I tend to ignore the instructions and do it my way, However, I always learn something new from your patterns and would enjoy being part of the process.

Great to know, thank you! I am the same, I kind of just dive in to the patterns and often alter them or hack the style a little before I even cut fabric! So it would be nice to offer some patterns for folks who want to hit the ground running!

What great items you always sew, Casey! I love watching your videos, they are interesting and fun. There is a lot of work that goes into making content, you do it well, and I really appreciate it. I would not, however, join you (or anyone else) on Patreon, because all those little memberships add up beyond my means. A lot of people love the platform and business model, though. So you do what makes you happy. Over here on KZbin, you could include a Ko-fi link for donations. Happy sewing, and warm regards, from Tracy

That is so true and one of the reasons I have hesitated with Patreon...so many memberships really do start to add up! Thank you so much for the input (and support!)! :)

OMG- I have the same process...overload when overwhelmed (-;= it usually works or I clear the deck. I would definitely enjoy (& support) having the options that you've covered in your Patreon investigation, especially jumping into the patterns that you're currently working on & looking for feedback. Thanks so much for all of your creative inspo! Suzanne

Right?! Why do we do it to ourselves?? I think I just love having things to do...totally self-imposed project stress :) And thanks for the Patreon feedback!

@@PatternScout Not to worry, unless you can never set boundaries (which you seem very capable of doing). It's part of the psychology of being a creative- too many wonderful opportunities; also interesting that it ties in with procrastination as delaying is often a way of limiting choices. It's a candy store out there in creativeville (-;=

Hi Casey, love ya work. Just a teensy-weensy little thing -: shirring" is pronounced like shirt, Shirley Temple & Cher. 'Shearing' is what you do to get wool off of a sheep's back. Re Patreon feedback, as a disabled pensioner, I personally wouldn't pay to view, not when I can get a full streaming service 24/7 every day of the month for the same price. A channel would have to actually teach me something of significant benefit to get my limited money.
