Honestly, it's soooo hard to find a journal that has nice pages, and the only way to find out if it does is to just go for it, but then you can't go back from there. It's such a struggle.... I recommend using lighter/light pastel colours, and try to only draw one layer, if you know what I mean. The more layers you make, the more it will bleed through. But if it really does, then you could cover it with pretty paper or something, or even write on it, but I wouldn't skip pages, that just makes the bleed through stand out more. At least this is what I do, but it's all up to you, and I think, your journal still looks amazing, the cover page turned out sooo pretty! And the notebook is so cute... But if you wanna be sure, next time try to find a journal with over 100gsm pages. I think the average is like 80gsm, but those aren't the best most of the times. But idk, it depends on the quality as well ofc. Yea, so that's it, have a nice week, Carrie, love ya!❤️✨

I believe this journal is 80gsm so I’m definitely gonna have to be mindful of bleed through, but so far it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I recently ordered a journal off of Amazon and it’s 120gsm… SO excited to start using it, I’m already in love hahah. Sending love!!❤️

Notebook therapy has super cute journals with 160 gsm and they’re awesome! I’ve done one of my journals from notebook therapy and it was the best journal I’ve ever had! No bleed through or anything! It was soooooo nice. Though, the journals are on the bit of the expensive side like $28, but they’re definitely worth it I think. I plan to buy more once I finish my current journal. That won’t be for a hot minute.

While paper weight is definitely a factor the bigger factor is whether the paper is coated or not. You can has super thing paper (Tomoe River 52gsm) that rarely bleeds and super thick paper (Archer & Olive 160gsm) that bleeds despite basically being cardstock. It always depends on what type of pen you use (gel, fountain, marker, etc), but an uncoated paper will almost always bleed if you are using a wetter ink/pen type even if it is super thick.

I had the same bleed thru problem 2 journals ago… I ended up glueing 2 pages together to thicken them. It does cut the pages in half, but it was soo much better than the bleed thru. now it’s one of my favorite journals!!

Hi Carrie! Happy Sunday! I love how this cover page turned out. The colors are so cute! I'm kind of a perfectionist, too, sometimes. It's awesome that you are on your 24th journal! I don't know if you are familiar with Lindsey Kaba here on KZbin, but she is a fellow journaler with really pretty and colorful journal flip throughs that I watch. The way she deals with journals with thin paper (she journals with Sharpies usually that bleed through as well) is she glues two pages together. That seems time consuming, but idk, I thought I'd share that idea if the bleed through is bothering you too much.

Hi Carrie! Love you channel. I've been here for awhile, but I'm not sure I've ever commented. I just wanted to recommend that if you don't like the bleed through, maybe you can just glue the pages together so you can't see it or glue in another piece of paper so that way it doesn't bleed through. That's what I like to do anyway! Thought it might help :) Thanks for sharing your process. It definitely motivates me to write in my journal as well!

Hey Carrie! I think it's a great idea to do marker stuff on a seperate piece of paper and then just glue it in your journal. I do this all the time and it works perfectly! There is no bleedthrough and you can journal on the page after it. The downside is of course that if you do this a lot, your journal will get bulky (I like bulky journals btw)

What about doing your doodles and such on different paper and taping it in? That's what I do. Especially when I'm in a book that has pages far too thin. I've also switched to colored pencils while using paper that thin.

Whenever I have pages I don’t like in my journal because of bleed-through or pages that I messed up beyond repair, I take a pretty piece of scrapbook paper and cut and glue it into my journal. Then, you can build on top of it with extra elements and make it look like a collage and/or scrap-booky, or just leave it as a pretty scrapbook paper. I’ve also taken colored cardstock paper that I cut down to the size of my page, and add a sticker of my favorite song lyrics, or write out a quote or something and glue that page over top of the page I want to hide.

Such a pretty cover page!! Love the colours you used. You're already on your 24th journal, that are so many journals! I'm on my 20th journal now and I love looking back on all my old journals. It's crazy how fast time flies by. Sad that the pens are bleeding through though. Maybe you could use coloured pencils instead? You can also try to glue pages together so you don't see the bleeding, or you can add stickers/ washi tape/ patterned paper/ pictures/ photos or other coloured elements (I mean like little drawings/doodles) on the spots that bleed through so it isn't visible anymore. I think you can just leave the left side of the page when you do artsy things! And if it bothers you it gives room for anything to press in the other side. Movie Tickets, cards,Pictures,and drawings to make on the left side think outside of the box to “what can I add to my journal.” (I had the exact same problem so this is what I did great video! ❤)

For me, I would rather have good quality paper than my outer cover. When I'm writing in a journal, I don't want to be restricted to what I use. So I would rather have a cover which I don't like. Also, we can customize the cover! So if I were you, I would change the journal. Hope you find this helpful Carrie!

BUT if I were you i'd pick a different one because one of your goals is to add more colour and I think you'll be less motivated to do that if you have a journal that bleeds through a lot. If you don't feel like you can be creative without set backs in a journal then why stick with it?
