Two non spoilerly things you should know since you're reacting to this. First, the show has several episodes with after credit scenes, you can probably find a list of them. So one main difference between FMAB and Avatar is that the alchemy of FMAB is science rather than "magic". Like scientists, the alchemists tend to have a specialty (e.g. freezing for Isaac, flames for Mustang), but, unlike with Avatar, they can also manipulate other things so long as they have the prerequisite knowledge.

For a modern example think of it more like the Glyphs from Owl House than the Bending in avatar. The transmutation circles are like a visual/pictoral spell to achieve a specific effect. A lot of alchemists will specialize in one thing- a lot of them are element specialists but you also have folks like Armstrong who specializes in Weaponized Sculptures, lol.
@TDoughter23
@TDoughter23 Ай бұрын
Every alchemist is capable of performing most transmutations but the State Alchemists specialize. The Freezer specializes in water with a preference for freezing it. Roy specializes in fire. But, he would need the right transmutation circle to do it. I think that’s spoiler free, yes?
@laurainathunderstorm
@laurainathunderstorm Ай бұрын
@@TDoughter23 yes, that a good explanation, because I've seen reactors confused when some State Alchemists transmute something that isn't their specialty, bc they don't always catch that alchemy is not exclusive, anyone can learn it and master many ways to transmute different things, specialisation is just for the sake of battle efficiency.

Most of the episodes that are in the 2003 version that aren't on this are filler though (even before the split). The only Manga cut chapters that are in 2003 are the train hijack and Yoki episodes, and the latter gets recapped later (though is a good one to watch tbh).
@mistingwolf

@@BCPvideoI tried to do this a while back. FMAB is basically whiplash compared to FMA 03. So many characters are introduced so fast, and the emotional connections get rushed because all of this was covered in the original airing before the story split, which would be Episode 20 of FMA 03, and Episode 9 of FMAB. And yes, you even need the "filler" episode from FMA 03's mining town misadventure to understand some of the events that happen in FMAB. Unfortunately, FMA isn't on Crunchyroll, even with their absorption of FUNimation's titles.

Yeah, don't worry about dub haters. Most of them are either older folks who have bad memories of super cheap dubs in the early 90s, or people just being snobs. Otherwise: Alchemy is a science, not magic. It's a skill one learns to do, not a talent one is born with like bending. Different alchemists specialize in different things. McDougan specialized in water, Armstrong specializes in stone, Mustang specializes with fire, but they can all do other kinds of alchemy too if they learn the right transmutation circles. This show does a great job of answering your questions as it goes on, so don't worry about things you don't understand right away. The Lady who wrote this knows how weave comedy, violence, horror, and tragedy and make them serve the story. This anime has themes so universal that it transcends the genre. No worries about watching the Dub over the Sub, this is one of the shows that has such phenomenal English voice acting that it doesn't matter too much, it'll still be a fantastic experience. It's happy, it's tragic, it's dark, it's hopeful, it's exciting with just the right balance of calm. It's a beautiful story that manages to bring together every loose end, every point in the plot, and it's nearly impossible to find any significant flaws with its writing. Now, that isn't to say that everyone's going to love it, everyone has different tastes and it's definitely not for everybody. From a purely objective point of analysis, though, it's really hard to criticize the story, aside from maybe the fact that some of the earlier story beats in the manga were skipped over because they'd already been covered in the 2003 anime.

I love this show, definitely one of my favourite pieces of media ever created! Don't stress over missing certain parts of the show, we know it is packed with a lot of information in every episode in addition to some relatively complex themes, ideas and philosophies. But figuring out what is happening and discussing the topics is the fun of it. Brace for an emotional ride, I'm very ready to tag along 😅

Frieren is incredible, it even displaced FMAB from place one in the My Anime List Ranking for favorite anime TV show, by quite some margin! Highly, highly recommend!

Alchemy is when you transmute something into a different state, but it's based heavily on science. You can't say... turn water into fire, but you can turn it into all it's other forms like steam or ice because molecularly it's still made of the same stuff. And of course this will be elaborated upon later.

You did really good for a first time seeing the show! A few things to help out: Alchemy will typically have one thing it does, for the case of the Freezing Alchemist, it was water temperature control. He could heat or freeze water, but preferred to freeze. As you might have guessed, next episode you will hear more of the brother’s backstory, but there are no representations from the government from preforming human transmutation. Ed and Al just don’t like remembering that day, it’s not that it’s a specific secret. Great reaction, loved your takes! Happy viewing!

I absolutely adore this anime. Fun fact, this got made because the original FMA anime was being made while the manga was still being written and they got to the point where they got ahead of it. Brotherhood got made because they wanted a fully faithful telling of the manga. It was actually pretty fun when brotherhood first aired to see where the original anime diverged from the source material

@frenchynoob besides the first episode and a slightly faster pace in the first 13 episodes (+Yoki ep cut)... where is it not Faithfull? I own the manga but haven't read it fully in a few years but dont remember any changes besides what's mentioned above.
@frenchynoob
@frenchynoob Ай бұрын
@@XSpiegel I'd argue those first 13 episodes are more important to adapt correctly than anything else, especially if it was intended to replace 2003 as people claim. Besides that, a lot of the flashbacks are heavily truncated, the Ishvalan War being a prime example, Trisha is barely shown _at all_ , I think Xerxes suffers from it as well. The order in which the brothers' backstory is revealed is also change I would argue for the worse: in the manga we only learn their backstory when they meet back up with Izumi, around Volume 6 or so. I'm not trying to say BroHo is bad, mind you, I just hate people using the false argument of "it follows the manga perfectly" to justify erasing 2003 from existance (my own personal bias aside, since I consider 2003 a better work of art than BroHo in every way).

I find it really annoying when a reactor has already stated they're watching it one way and people keep complaining and demanding they change it up. This happens a lot in the comment section of the Letts React channel, both reactors that run that channel have audioprocessing issues and doing sub would be extremely uncomfortable, but people can't seem to grasp that. Your comm reminded me of them. I myself am a sub watcher but I don't go putting my nose into other people's business because who am I to demand?

Hello! I really enjoyed this reaction and great job remembering so many names, a lot of people have trouble with that early on. FMAB reactions tend to have the same people commenting the same things, tips, and list of episodes with after-credits scenes. Most reactors end up missing the 4 OVA episodes, they're basically extra side episodes usually going into backstories of side characters scattered throughout the series. They're not necessary to watch but you may want to consider it as they're all quite good. If you are interested, 'Simple People' can be watched after episode 2, 'the Blind Alchemist' can be watched after episode 20, 'Yet Another Man's Battlefield' can be watched after episode 30, and 'Tales of the Master' can be watched after episode 33. Otherwise, so happy someone new is watching the series and it really seems like you're putting thought into your commentary and reflections, which I appreciate so much. This show definitely rewards thinking about the plot and world, so your questions are not wasted at all.
