Get some cat 5 cable and cut it open, remove the wire from inside and cut that into 8-10” lengths then use that to tie around your hose ends or harness plugs and connectors.

From my 40 yrs experience with Cat overhauls you realize that any time doing rebuilds and you decide that a hose tucked down inside the frame underneath things that you deem good is the first to blow when fully assembled being used for the first time. Especially a used machine that you don’t have repair history on.
@frotobaggins7169
@frotobaggins7169 2 жыл бұрын
even if it's 5 years on, it's much easier to replace now while it's already apart. But then I don't know how much the hose is and it's not my money either. Sure seems like a good idea to just replace it now though.
@G-Man-kc2nm
@G-Man-kc2nm 2 жыл бұрын
@@frotobaggins7169 Good point froto. My opinion, it costs a ton more on the job site. If your not moving dirt and you need to disassemble the machine, that sucks. In this business it seems like you make money and turn around and put it back into the equipment. That still beats payments.
@frotobaggins7169
@frotobaggins7169 2 жыл бұрын
@@G-Man-kc2nm Yeah, In my experience it's much better to replace any kind of wear item if you already have things apart for other work. If the hose was say 5 or even 10 years old, maybe that might be a different situation but it's safe to assume that it's likely original to the machine. Sometimes it's hard to step back and take a bigger view of the situation and make decisions. Jeff seems to do pretty good with that. That's why I said, I don't know how much the hose is and it's not my money. It's easy to spend other peoples money while sitting at home watching other people work. Jeff did say it's a suction hose not a pressure hose, so that's much less, pardon the pun, pressure on it. I assume Jeff knows what he's doing.

Good to hear Andy is still kicking. He's a good guy even if I haven't seen him for thirty years or more I still think about him every now and then. It's good you already know you also are getting to that "would you bait my hook for me" age. Crawling around on that stuff ain't as easy as it once was that's for damn sure. All the best to 'ya Jeffrey. The wife says tell you she does not miss the Rest Area business and opening day at Cherry Creek and Blackfoot. My how time flies. Say hello to Ernie Davis for me there in Idaho Falls if you happen to run into him. Hope all is well for you both. Cheers :)

I sympathise, I'm finding out the hard way as well. After we spoke the other day, I had a propel chain come off whilst on the narrow part of the bank, managed to walk it back on. Then it wouldn't walk backwards properly, turned and near tipped it over when the track locked up and I couldn't free it.. then at the last one of the transmission chains jumped a tooth and I thought I toasted the main clutch.... I think I caught it in time. The engine is leaking oil and the manifold is wet. We finally managed to get it free and I walked it onto the flat, shut her off, packed the gear up and went home. (REALITY HAS BITTEN HARD)

Replacing hydraulic hoses are always a bitch. Jeff, you gotta get yourself one of the Milwaukee cordless ratchets and impacts. I never thought I'd have any use for them, but I'm a believer now. I've got two of the M12 ratchets, and one half inch M18 impact. They've got all the torque the pneumatics have and I've got several batteries for each. They really make life easy when you're wrenching! Peace brother, be safe! 😊🙌🤟🤙

definitely take the tank off , you need to anyway to make it easier to work on the steering clutches, on the right hand side up against the chassis between the torque converter and gearbox is some steel oil line's, definitely have a good look at them as they are not easy to fix later, on our 9g had to remove the belly guard and all the floor plates, basically like how yours is looking now to get to them. it is the oil cooler pipes that goes up to the front from the back tucked away against the chassis
