You need a check valve on the main valve going to the pig water. If you lose pressure at your house and a water port is opened at the house it will siphon the pig barrel into the water and will come out at the house when pressure is restored. That's called a cross connection

Love that you sometimes need to do a "farm fix" rather than a nice-looking patch. Often it's more about getting a fix done that will serve the purpose, and less about how it looks in the end (although bonus points if it looks good too). Trying to weld a flat plate patch into a curved bucket is unending frustration -- and you did the best that you could under those conditions. It will function as it needs to. Spray some JD green paint on it and it's all good. 🙂

I've been watching Cutting Edge Engineering videos on Facebook and KZbin. That guy does a lot of metal repair work on construction equipment and I've picked up some pointers and tricks to employ when things aren't perfectly straight and flat but you want to patch them up. Grant. Get a old radiator , some electric fans, a water pump, and a freezer that opens up. Drill 2 holes in each end of the deep freeze. Mount the radiator on top of the freezer. Pump antifreeze through the freezer and then through the radiator. Antifreeze needs to be 0°. Cools the radiator and the fan blows the hot air into the radiator but comes out cool. Never have to refill the system. Coil the line in the deep freeze.

Saw Grant & the angle the tractor was on & laughed like hell!! I did the exact same thing with a JD 5520 pulling a 15' brush hog on an unknown to me field. Ropes were not out then, tried a 6" strap off a Chevy 1500 & then a F250, neither one budged the tractor. Ending up using a 24' cab over roll back with a 25 ton winch. Had to lower the bed support to use the winch, still moved the truck back about 6" before the tractor moved. Check the hole, an old stone lined drainage the state had never filled after they moved the road... thanks guys. Great videos!!

If you want to make really straight cuts with your plasma cutter, make a guide out of 1" x 3/16 x 12" flat stock with an 8 inch handle welded in the middle out of the same material. Hold the guide in place with the 8 inch handle and pull the torch along the straight edge. You should be able to drag the torch nozzle along the edge of the guide on the metal, as long as it is clean, and you won't have to float free handed. Also, it helps a lot if you grind off all your slag before welding. I welded army tanks for 45 years and it's the little things that help a lot.

Adding a leather backwoods to your welding helmet with auto darkening faceplate will improve your welding. Why you ask? Because you won't have light reflecting off the inside of the lense and you can see better hence you weld better. Really big improvement when welding outside.

Good job of fixing. I personally would have cut out the whole bottom , and then welded in a whole new plate as the whole thing is getting worn out: I’m still watching so lm hoping you realize and do the right thing. It will be straight; as those edges have a tendency to get bent. When done it will be stronger& look better. Take it from a farm boy who bent one and the welds would never hold. You have one of the best tractors that was ever made. Thumbs up

Using a piece of angle iron clamped for a straight edge will help your plasma cut lines and resting your arm on something will help your welding! the porosity in the welds is not grinding metal clean you need two shiny fresh mating pieces! love the effort!

Hi Laura , when you are making a cut with a torch or a plasma cutter. If you clamp a piece of angel iron to the work piece as a straight edge , your cuts will be straight. Just clamp the angle off the cut line. The distance of edge of the head to the center line of the plasma or torch tip to your cut line. A drag cup sometimes on plasma cutters helps keep the right height from the metal . so you don't mess up your tip. Great videos I enjoy watching every video . Tell Grant , Gauge and your Dad I said HI.

The first tractor I learned to drive in was an old 4960 and we used to have to turn the steering wheel just to get it to start but once you knew that it wasn’t too big a deal, least to me. I remember one of our old farm hands didn’t know the trick and I could tell he was having issues so I popped in the tractor and got it going, letting him know of the quirk.

I've said this before, and as another, corn & soybean (with some cattle) farmer to the southeast of you in Missouri, I think you are ahead of where I was with mechanical skills in this stage of your farming career. Grant is, just, way ahead. If only I could have found an employee like Gage when I was running/managing the corporate farm when I farmed in the Illinois River bottoms. My cousin sold M&W parts; and he put M&W turbo chargers on several of the neighbors 4010's and 4020's (like yours). Your You Tube posts make my day.
