Howdy y'all... a bit much? Perhaps. Today CR is learning a new "southernism" and we are picking up our first order Azure! Y'all wanted to hear more about it and what we got, so here it is! I'm VERY happy with it and plan to keep ordering each month as we fill out storage pantry little by little...
Check to see if they have a drop spot in your area + order here: bit.ly/3y9QeQF
Editing to add- we are going to wall in that pantry corner with an AC so it will be cool + dark for long term storage :) Right now we are just using as extra pantry space.

I would be a little wary of having food in the garage without insulting the garage. Food storage needs to be kept at a stable temperature or it’ll go bad quick. I learned that the hard way! About 3 months of food went bad Bc I kept it in our storage building outside!
@willowgrove9288
@willowgrove9288 2 жыл бұрын
An FYI on storage. The high temps of an uninsulated out building make for a very poor place to store food. Historically a cellar would be used. Cool even temps. I'd be getting a cool bot set up sooner then later.

When I build my garage I plan to put in a root cellar, for long term storage and storing my canned goods. I’m surprised there hasn’t been any modern day invention for root storage.
@willowgrove9288
@willowgrove9288 2 жыл бұрын
@@joytoyouandme4593 actual root cellar temps are too cold for canned goods. You might consider a 2 phase set up. Upper 60s for regular canned, bucketed etc food, and the root cellar for fresh storage.

@@willowgrove9288 - I live in an area where we rarely get snow. Growing up we kept most things in the root cellar including canned goods. But I will make sure to test the temps and possibly keep jars in the off garbage storage.

No hate whatsoever but find it so funny when Americans call all types of pasta 'noodles' haha. Do any non-US viewers know what I mean? Noodles to us are Japanese noodles/ramen etc, for shapes of pasta, we would just say their name 'penne' 'spaghetti 'tagliatelle' etc. Also, good for you for making plans to protect your family if necessary. If you ever find that you want 25 or even 50lb bags of anything here is a tip. I used to work at a small health food store and getting our order minimum could be tough some weeks but we still needed to order. We had customers that would call us and ask for us to order bulk bags of all kinds of stuff. It helped us meet our minimum so we wouldnt charge them much over cost. do you live where there's earthquakes? if so, you might want to run some twine through the holes on the shelves where you put your jars. to kind of form a ledge, if that makes sense. Or some other means of accomplishing that. Also, keep in mind that a family your size will go through a LOT of beans. We eat beans regularly because we are mostly organic, and we used about 6-7 cups per week (appx 2 family size meals- 8 in our home) which is about 3-3.5 lbs. And WAIT- Polenta is grits?!? holy cow, mind blown. Another thing, i'm not through the video yet so this might be covered, but with beans and rice you will want a BUNCH of seasonings, beans and rice will get seriously boring otherwise, and mix it up, rice can be savory but also sweet.

That’s exciting you’ve been able to get the garage done and start making your extended pantry. My grandparents had a spot in their basement they used for storing home canned things and the temp because it was mostly underground was like a root cellar. So you have a place maybe you could put in a root cellar so you don’t have to buy a window unit? I used to do azure standard here in the NGA mountains. I was thinking I’d like to get a few more things again in bulk for our 7 person family but first we must clean the garage so we have some place to put it since we moved into a smaller home last year.

We’ve done a drop spot pick up like this before. May have even been from the same company- azure standard. Worked well for us.

That seems like a cool service. Unfortunately, I live in a pretty rural area and the nearest drop is a 3 hour drive. It’s just me but I just bought my first house and am planning on building up some storage now that I’ll have the space. Especially since I’m moving to a smaller town and it’ll be a 30 minute drive each way to get to any kind of bigger store like a Walmart/Meijer/Target. I’ll still have access to a local grocery store but that can get expensive so if I can have a solid pantry storage built up of shelf stable things, I can primarily buy fresh stuff at the grocery store and not have to buy as much on weekly trips. I’m already planning a trip to make the hour drive to the nearest Aldi to do some stocking up once I get moved in!

I'm with you Angie. I've been on a food prepping kick as well. Just a gut feeling. Had to laugh when you said "not funny when you are hungry" Just said the same thing to my hubby last night!
