I think they didn't include tutorials because the complexity of the game actually requires A LOT of tutorials and they'd rather let gamers provide that for free. Most games, a five minute intro is enough to get you going, but for people who spend their time building, the controls of PlanetCoaster are highly convoluted and even for someone who played RCT, for people who spend their time building, this game has a steep learning curve. For someone who's just plopping down flat rides, it's not as bad.

I know that this is an older video, but here's a tip that I never see mentioned...place your shop buildings close to your queues as a nicely themed shop will add to your queue scenery rating so it's a two for one deal and saves money early on. You can do two different queues near the same scenery as well. Also placing your bins next to instead of on your paths helps with crowd flow...same with benches. Placing benches off of your paths also prevents the peeps from sitting on them backwards.

thank you so much!! as someone who never grew up playing any games, many games feel not very beginner friendly to me--i need things SPELLED out because no controls feel intuitive to me. yes, i do need my hand held, and i kind of couldn't believe when i opened this up i literally got no instructions. i felt a little silly, considering this game isn't considered hard, but it seems like i'm not the only one who had issues!

Oh, C Tran, that is me, too! The only computer game I ever liked was Rollar Coaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon. When I got this new computer, my son said they were probably too old to sync to this computer, so he bought this for me. But, the tutorials were vague and not easy for an old lady like me. My daughter in law said to look up how to play, and find instructions. This is helping, and hearing that many others are struggling, makes me feel not so dumb. Thanks for sharing.

One of the best tips I can give as a brand new park designer is to press "x" to place items. It brings up the axes and allows you to move the cam all around without moving the object itself which is a Godsend if you're as anal about symmetry as I am.

Reading the comments here is reassuring. I guess I wasn't the only one overwhelmed. Though, in my case, I basically had an idea for a park I wanted to build straight away, theme, music and everything and I couldn't quite figure out how to do it, so that turned me away. I think I should start with just a more generic park to learn stuff instead of being so adamant about certain themes I don't even know are possible or not (I mean, can you even make your own animatronics for example? No way that for example popular video game characters will be included) and starting with these basics will really help. The game not having a tutorial even in the campaign didn't quite mesh with me and that was at least 4 or 5 years back. Haven't really touched it since, but always have this idea of that I should try again. The game has high potential for me to like it, if I just give it a proper chance. But its easier to just boot up something more familiar than something with a steep learning curve where I can't do it the way I want right away.

Thank you for this and your other videos. :) I've been going through them all and the pacing and explanation you give for everything is really easy to consume and apply. I've found it's so easy to just get suddenly overwhelmed in games like this where you can really do a lot of building customization after watching tutorials or guides but you've formatted everything in a really palatable way. It's given me a lot of ideas of how to manipulate all the bits and pieces for customization as well as the actual monetary and management portion of the game. Thanks for that!

important for beginners that might struggle like I did (note: ps4 edition): ride entries are connected to the main path with *queue*, not path. took me ages to figure that out. I played jurassic world evolution first, and that game makes no differentiation between from where to get entry and exit ways.

Thanks for this! Could you do a video on basic park layout? Like what's a good path infrastructure to build around? Where stuff is most beneficial? A few questions: 1) with terrain, is there a way to flatten it down to default level? I know undo can, but it only goes so far. If I've made a hill, is there someway to get it level perfectly with the rest without guesstimating with the "lower" tool? 2) when I try to add water after creating a pit, it's only a puddle and it won't add any more. It won't allow me to fill it up. What am I doing wrong?
@Geekism7 жыл бұрын
I'll definately be looking at park layout and terrain in the future. as for your specific points, firstly to level an area you want to use the 'flatten to foundation' button, starting at the height you want. AS for the 'puddle', the water in this game is a little janky, so it could be a few things... hopefully the video will help you :)

Great video but 2 things you didn't really explain - both of which I'm struggling with. Firstly when placing my rides, shops etc, camera movement is really 'flat' and not from above which yours did - so how you did that would have been helpful. Secondly, placing paths to an entrance, which is required to open ... yours seemed to fit those automatically (ie the burger shop) so an explanation of how you did that would have been helpful - yes you said there's another video on paths so will have to check that out but certainly camera view help would have been a definite.

i tried paying this game two years ago, stopped playing it after it beeing too confusing and having no tutorials (other than on youtube wich wasnt ingame), tried it again today and it was still hard but i feel like if i do it everyday i kind of get used to it, but still its a hard game and not for beginners. the coaster building was fun but its very hard to pull it up. teh positive is that the rides are more fluent, like in real lief, but to get to that realistic design, its good to learn it first. paths is a hard one for me as well as the coaster buildings. and so far i have not yet build a house without it glitching it out (with glitch, i mean weird stuff that is possibly because i do things wrong; very wrong) and have not made a nice park, i delete all of my parks afterwards. i realy have a lot to learn for this game but so far its not a bad game. one thing i have trouble with, possibly because of my bad pc, is that its sometimes very laggy and it lags a lot in rides and thats annoying but i think its due to having a bad computer. well, its the second time i played it (first time in 2018 or something, like that long ago) and i'm not used to how hard everything is. rct3 was easy and beginnersfriendly, this game hates beginners i think. that beeing said, i think, if i want to play this game more than one time, i have to watch your videos more so maybe if i'm ready to play the game i gonna watch some of your videos on my laptop, while i'm playing the game on my pc.

Hi Jonti, I'm hoping that two additions that they eventually put into this game are picture takers on rides/photo shops and on coasters or log flumes, track that turns, in other words, the track stops, then turns and takes you backwards, also, loads more stuff for dark rides.
@dlfendel28447 жыл бұрын
Wayne, Jonti has in one of his wonderful videos (I think the one on triggers but I'm not sure) a kind of pseudo-photo thing. He takes one of the lights, puts it aiming at the track, and uses triggers to make it flash a couple of times as the ride cars go by. Granted, there's no booth or place to BUY the photo, but it does become a very creative simulation of the effect.
@JoriDiculous7 жыл бұрын
Yes! Seeing especially teens have a strong wish to get "selfies" taken on rides. Would be a fun addition to the game :)
@Geekism7 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see photos added to the game, as DL mentions above, I've made a cosmetic work around with triggers, but an actual camera with a store that needs to be placed by the exit of a ride would be a great addition. As for the log flume piece... It's not something I've ever seen in real life, but I know other thempark games have had it, so why not! :D I think we'll see a re-due of the water rides at a later date, Frontier themselves have said that they are currently a work in progress
@kry1020017 жыл бұрын
Geekism Valhalla in Blackpool has it, where it comes to a stop, turns, then you go down a long drop, also Arctic Expedition in Disney Land (I think that's the name) has a similar part, where the track curls up as if it is broken, you then rotate on the tracks and go backwards. I would love to see the photo machine on rides, with a photo shop you can place at the end, and going totally crazy, how about an option to see the pictures yourself and post them on Facebook or their own website, just some food for thought, loving your videos Jonti, see you when your next LIVE.
@dlfendel28447 жыл бұрын
The ride is "Expedition Everest" in the Asia section of Disney's Animal Kingdom at WDW and yes, you are going like crazy and you head UP and suddenly, there before you, the track has been shredded (presumably by the Yeti that's chasing you) and the entire train goes BACKWARD back down the way you came (but a track switch has switched behind you so you head down a different direction in reverse at high speed, and eventually a second switch move puts you front-forwards again. They also do a much slower version of that in the Norway pavilion at EPCOT which is now re-themed to the movie Frozen. In that one a head-on confrontation with a giant Troll sent you backwards into a swirling North Sea under a giant oil rig, but now it has been changed to "Frozen" scenes and characters.

Yes!! Take this from an experienced PC player who also find the controls in this game utterly frustrating! Camera seems to have a mind of it's own and will fly off to who knows where, when ever it pleases. Took me ages to figure out the tiny camera-options (on right bottom side of game ("build") screen"was to control the snapping when you build. Also that you have to constantly switch from "normal" camera to "free-camera" when you build is stupid. Why cant it have X,Y,Z controls on keyboard? They sure could learn from feks. Cities:Skyline -> Good controls.

The developers should have definitely kept this to the similar build style of roller coaster tycoon three. so much simpler to build everything and lay down paths etc. I guess I'm a bit of a neat freak and like my paths and buildings plus rides to be straight. I hate my paths having a slight bend to them. The same as certain rides and buildings you place will be on a slight angle, Drives me nuts.

The numbers you gave for staff wages are slightly off. As you saw with Fannie Eaton, she wasn't happy with a $10 raise but she was fine with a $20 raise. There's a guide on steam that listed the minimum amount you can pay your workers at each level of training. The takeaway of that video is that you should give a raise of $20 to your janitors when promoting them and $12.50 for everyone else (vendors, mehcanics, entertainers). I think these numbers are also in game so that the cost of promoting someone is the salary they should be making before that promotion. Maybe bring this up in the future video you said you'd make. Also, you started going into some details of the ride but didn't bring up anything about the loading or maintenance times. I assume you'll do this in a future video? The loading rules are terribly unoptimized and leads to many rides not filling to capacity even when there's a really long queue.

Loading times/quantities as well as mechanics, work rostas will be covered in episode 2 :) As for the staff wages, you are right... I always just increased by $10 and they were happy, I'll fine tune using these numbers and add them into episode 2 :)
