✨This video is all about following our dreams even if we feel it's too late (it's not!) And, my personal story of starting art in my 40s & starting over in my 50s, entwined within some drawing and watercolour painting too! You are not behind in life!

Finding purpose at any age and reinventing ourselves is scary at any age. But, starting over later in life, after 40, 50, 60, 70 and beyond is entirely possible. Living life without regret! Many of us fail to start anything new because we feel it’s too late to start over. Do we feel it’s too late to start and that we are too old now to even bother! I believe it’s never too late to create your best life and start living it. I achieved success being an artist in my 50s after starting over in my 40s. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, learning how to draw, paint, revisiting an old passion or creating material success, it’s absolutely doable. It’s also very beneficial for our health; physical, mental, spiritual and psychological. Growing older is a gift and can open up time for us to do the things we have always wanted to do, so I say, go for it! Now’s the time! I’m also sharing my own personal story in this video from being a single mum, college and art school later in life and completely restarting my life after 40. Now in my 50s I have created the life I always dreamed of living! It’s by no means perfect and still bumpy at times, but it happened only after I took some risks and took a few leaps of faith! Living life now on my own terms makes me feel truly blessed and I want to inspire and cheer you on to do the same. (Even in the smallest of ways!)

When my mum retired she surprised us all by saying she wanted to return to being an artist. She had never been an artist our whole lives and we asked her "wait, when were you an artist?" And she said, "when I was a little girl". She is now an accomplished and prolific artist and just turned 80.

I’ll be 58 or 59 in a few days and I’ve REALLY been struggling with feeling like I’m invisible and that my life is quickly sputtering to a halt. I’ve lived in a few countries overseas. Used to be quite the adventurer. I hadn’t been dreading getting older. Hadn’t seen older people as “spent” , unattractive , without meaning or value , etc. . So why am I viewing myself in this light ? Truly don’t know what to do . Was pleased to read your comment . Ty .

My grandmother went back and finished her diploma in her 60’s and marched along side my older brother when he graduated with his regular class. When asked why she actually went back and did so after all those years, she said, “Because you’re never too old to do what you want to do! Don’t you ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something!!” It was a huge accomplishment for her and she was so proud since she had to leave school in her younger years and spent her whole life raising babies and then just trying to keep afloat since then. Something tells me it was far deeper than that that stopped her from going back until she learned to actually take her own advice and follow it. After she graduated, she got cancer spent the next few years struggling with that and then passed away. I get a lot of my creative talent streak from her and not a day has gone by that I don’t think of her since she passed nearly 15 yrs ago now, but even more so when I’m painting since she gave me so much helpful advice along the way to learn from. I hope that I can take her advice in life and just not ever wait until I’m that old to do something I love/want to do especially since watching her fight in the end taught me that you just don’t always have “some day” to do what you want to.

It brings me so much joy seeing my little gnomes and goblins and wood spirits emerging from the block. They might not be perfect but it makes me happy and that's the most important part of any hobby.

I grew up in Miami, worked as an overseas and high seas operator, then for #1 radio station, moved to Boston, met my husband and raised two sons while working for corporate America, gardened for 50 years and and in my 40's turned my love of the earth into a flower, herb and floral business for 20 years. And at 60, I taught myself to paint and then taught others, have a studio even now. I'm 75 and have always followed my bliss and intuition. We are only limited by our thoughts. Whenever I set out in the direction of what I wanted, things would fall into place. Dream big and just take the first step. Love your channel, Wendy.

I am selling most of what I own (Small storage of items) and moving to a new town. Less social media and even being on my phone and having a very productive season of life. Goal is to read 75 books this year, working on my drawing skills, and spending more time in nature. This is just the next year for me. LOL You all inspire me!

I’m 60 years old and so much of my life has been about, “Someday, I’m going to….” Then, one day a few weeks ago, I heard a woman on an exercise video say something to the effect of, “Today is the day you will never be this young again!” It hit me so profoundly! Every day that goes by is gone FOREVER! If you want to do something, try something, just do it, try it!! That beautiful china set that was passed down for generations just packed away in a box, or just shown in a china cabinet, is yours to use and enjoy!! What are you waiting for?? You want to pick up a paint brush and try painting, just do it! Paint carefree, like you are using chalk on the sidewalk! Without any expectations, it can be so liberating!! Enjoy life!! Today!! We don’t know what day God has designed to bring us home!

I'm 49. I learned to play drums starting at 39 (I got zero support for the desire as a girl growing up in the 80s & 90s) and went on to be in three indie rock bands, played lots of gigs, recorded albums, etc! Yes it was challenging, but also fun, life-changing, and totally worth it -- plus I always knew I could do it/would be good at it, I'd just never had the chance.

I love this. I really admire you for doing this. We all need 'The Beat'! There's a great old pop/rock song that you might know from 1974 called Na Na Na by Cozy Powell. The lyric is simple, but it's all about a young guy wanting to be the drummer "in a rock'n'roll band". I was only 11 or 12 when it was released as a single, but I LOVED dancing to it at church hall discos!

I’ve joined a pottery artist studio and I dabble in other mediums. I feel like I’m completely starting over finding myself. I’m now starting out building my art business at 50…. I feel I’ve come full circle because art was my passion as a child, I was taken over by extreme imposter syndrome and stopped arting for 30 years and now I’m back…. I was a ballerina for over 30 years. In those years I had no issues taking chances. As I get older (I'm 58) and can't dance anymore I am finding that nothing compares, or fulfills me like ballet did. I also have "imposter syndrome" in many ways. Until I found art. I've started painting and in a lot of ways it is like dancing on paper or canvas. I've also started writing. Of course, I'm worried about my future and making enough money to survive in my later years. I beat cancer 13 years ago, but it took so much from me as far as energy and mental health are concerned. I also have some hidden ailments and seeing you push forward is inspiring. I lost my fiancee 5 years ago as well. I'm fighting to let those things fuel me for the good as experience and motivation. He would not want me to lose hope, or the drive that I had. Your videos are so inspiring and this one struck me so poignantly today. I've a new found inspiration to keep moving forward and to actually write out a path (loosely of course). Here's to starting!

I just wanted to commiserate with you. I too have had ME/CFS for more years than I care to remember. Have you heard of the Mucinex Protocol. Quite a few people have had a little relief from taking Mucinex. The active ingredient in it is Guaifenisin and that seems to be what does the trick. It has helped me to get a few chores done and also with lifting the brain fog. The effects are only temporary although it is an OTC which is convenient. One other drug that has helped me is (prescription) nortriptyline. I balked at it at first due to a bad experience with anti-depressants in the past but I started on 10mg a day and have slowly gone to 20mg to reduce body pain. I don't know if these would help you but I know how ME/CFS devastates your life and even a 5-15% improvement can feel like a huge difference. Anyway, heartfelt sympathy for you and wishing you all the best🙂

Lots of books out there about it. Check it out! ( Attitude is key to overcoming ANYTHING in life... I've been told many times that my diseases/conditions were incurable and that I was going to die. I have multiple art journals that I do something in every day if I can. I don't pressure myself but I do track in my planner what I do creatively. Some days its collage, some days sketching, some days just prepping pages with gesso or paint. I also enjoy fussy cutting images for my art journal collage as well as slow stitching. We each have our own art inside of us and it doesn't matter if we ever show anyone or sell anything. We are successfully getting our art out and that is what nurtures our soal. Just create❤

Thank you for this video. I am a 35 years old part time Artist and I already feel like I am way behind in life and will not be able to accomplish my dream of being a full time artist. Seeing your video and the comments from everyone motivated me to continue producing more artworks. Thank you again!😊

‘Age and experience are irrelevant.’ This video is brilliant. Thanks for being a shining light and encouraging those of us who need to hear that it’s not too late for us to fulfill our dreams. I hope one day I write a book as I have always wanted to do that. It just feels like a huge and overwhelming task but it is definitely possible ♥️

I’m 52 and just started writing my first novel. I’m loving the creative process, and I’m in the right phase of my life for it now. I’d never have seen it through before now. Sometimes, serendipity plays its part, it’s never too late as long as you enjoy the journey, that’s often more important than the destination ❤

Hearing you talk about being one of the older students in college and university I just wanna say there is probably value you contributed to the group being older that you didn't even know about at the time! For me those older students were so important, especially in art, because feeling behind is not always age-related: I felt behind even when I was younger and it was seeing and talking to those older students who were just starting out that made me feel inspired and like I had permission to be where I'm at! So thank you! ❤ I've just hit my thirties and I'm finally unsticking myself from that place where feeling behind can make you not fully start at all.

Wendy, I found you on KZbin when I was 72........now approaching 76! I was in need of emotional expression & you introduced me to journaling . I have never looked back. I don't want to be a commercial artist in any way, however I do want to be a 'rounded' human being. Thank you for your presence in the world brightly shining, illuminating the way. 😍

Hi Wendy! Your discussionn in this video really hit home with me. I had a similar experience---married in my earlier 20s, had a child, became divorced and received no child support. Eventually made my way through college (BFA) and was hired right out of college as an illustrator and graphic designer (then art director) until the recession hit. We all lost our jobs as the company eventually closed. I had some very lean years, trying to figure out what to do next. I've been working a steady job (unrelated to art) for almost 10 years. It pays the bills, but is not in the least a creative job. I finally picked up my paints and brushes recently, but it IS a learning curve, and feel extremely frustrated sometimes (I am now mid-60s)---but I keep plugging away when I feel the urge to learn and be creative again. I do love your videos, your honesty, and your perseverence and encouragement. Thank you for giving me a push to continue on with my love of making art.

I recently moved into a camper and gave up most of my stuff. I once tried painting and didn't feel I was any good at it. Asked my mom if she kept my painting supplies. She did. ❤ Thank you for this video. You inspired me and reminded me how awesome my mom is. ❤

I loved this video and agree with everything you said. My 20s to 30s were spent bringing up my 6 children. At the age of 40 I'd completed a BA Hons in Literature and Art History with the Open University. I then completed a PGCE and worked in Primary teaching for 13 years. I've since retired and at the age of 61 I have written 3 novel and have a number of projects on the go. I love learning new skills--and creativity. Thank you for sharing.

Love this! Your video made me think about how change is the constant in life. I’m in my late 50’s now and am struggling what to do next. I remember reading somewhere (can’t remember the source) that encourages anyone to look at what you did for fun/hobby when you were 11 or 12..it can kinda signal what direction u may want to take ..love your content ..

I’m 51 and decided to get scuba certified last year. (It was my childhood dream to be a marine biologist.)Now at 51 I desire to learn about spear diving. I studied art for my BFA in my teens & 20’s and my MFA in my 40’s. Now I make art some days at night to relax and because I pivoted to a career in public health, but still carry art in my soul. I always say I’m going to retire and be an old lady who paints and scuba dives into my 80’s. But if I do it right I may not have to wait that long. I used to say It’s never too late all the time. But now that I’m 51 I’m saying it’s never too soon to start living the life you want and need to live from your very soul. Thanks for the encouragement and focus on the older ladies who know that growing never has to stop❤

I started painting with watercolors at 45… the following summer I won a painting contest in the watercolor division, and reserve grand champion overall for the entire show. If someone had told me even two years before that I’d do that, I’d have laughed at them. I learned from watching KZbin tutorials. 💗✨

Wendy what a wonderful inspiration you are. I always feel energized when I watch your videos. I’m in my 60’s retired and have picked back up on painting. It has really helped my mental health. It’s my ultimate happy place. Thank you for all your valuable advise. Hugs

Great talk. I retired finally at 65 and haven't looked back and I have no one to look after, just myself. I am so thankful that I never lost my artistic ability learning and now I'm just learning like crazy and enjoying myself and staying focused on enjoying myself...not selling my heart but enjoying myself. if selling combs.. thank God, but still that's not my focus. It's enjoying the gift of art and hope it make the world a more beautiful place. I'll be 67 in June 14th yay. Never to late.❤

Thank you so much for this video. Thank you for being that woman that is like "I'm here in my 50s, I renewed myself and I am living!" I needed that, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that needs this message from women that are 40+ and are reinventing themselves or starting over. Thank you for being here are sharing your journey :)

I totally agree that it is never too late to learn. At the age of 45 I studied at university part time whilst still working full time ( and family commitments) and moved into lecturing . I loved learning much more than when I was younger so was more focused on. On retiring I learnt ballet, taught myself to swim and am now selling my new hobby of felting / art at the age of 69! While you are healthy ……..and able…… just do it! I am loving having time now for me. It keeps me happy . Thanks Wendy for your wise words. So true. Xx
