The reason shadowhunters are wearing black is because they are hunting. In the realm of shadowhunters certain colors stand for certain events or things. Black stands for hunting (usually demons). The detective (luke) is a werewolf and the blonde guy (Jace) has been described as one of the strongest shadowhunters.

The application of the runes on their skin was like a mixture between a temporary tattoo and makeup ... And the actors did actually have to spend a decent amount of time EVERY day in the makeup chair because each one has to be individually applied and in the EXACT same place each time. The look of the runes changes slightly throughout the seasons.... I think they were different colours in the first season like very very muted slight differences in the colour of the runes but they eventually just turned it to solid black. But yeah I think I remember the actors saying that the runes took like an hour or two to apply most of the time or something and then the actors would have to go into hair and makeup and spend more time sitting down getting that done so I'd say it was a little bit more of a lengthier process than most TV shows stars go through... Obviously it would depend on what clothing they were wearing as to whether the runes were visible or not... The one on the dark-haired shadowhunter Alec he has a rune on his neck that's pretty much always partly visible... But yeah they would only apply the ones that would be seen in the scene most of the time... which was helpful in cutting down time in the makeup chair.

WARNING: SPOILERS! - Those "tattoos" are actually runes which creates these kind of powers such as speed run, high jump etc! Those runes are only for Shadowhunters! - The black haired lady (6:46) is not a mother for that poor child, she just uses him! - The blond guy aka Jace wasn't actually himself, he is like in different body (he is actually caring and shows his love for Clary aka the main character) - And yeah that black guy (I'm sorry) is the werewolf! He also is the policeman and solves the things also using this kind of world which humans don't see! - And the thing that Alec and Jace are parabatai (connected in some point), and only normal here is just Alec! (8:05) - Simon aka the vampire (9:57) is Clary's best friend from young days! And since he is vampire it explains speed running 😂 warlock who is together with Alec! Also the other guy is warlock! It's for information to understand the fight better lmao! Honestly, interesting show if you actually watch it not just judge it...

ACTUALLY it wasnt cancelled. atleast not on cliffhanger, they made that the series finale on purpose. it was never meant to be a cliffhanger
