If you haven't update the firmware on the Autel, might add some functionality you wish you had now. My old Autel when it was new there were updates to add newer cars and I was able to cross flash it to a identical looking model that supported a lot more functionality. I doubt there's too many better versions than what you have. It's great seeing you be able to get another dream car, even if you had to get a rebuilder.

@@TheInja Well it might already be up to date and they stopped releasing updates for mine now but the newest car we own is a 08 so not really a problem. I have used it on the cars at work and so far it's been able to read all of them too but nothing is newer than 11 and no McClarens. I only paid 200 for mine and it's been very useful for the family's fleet so far.

Speaking from experience with McLarens and track racing, the gas in the oil is a sign the valve guides need to be changed, there dried out or cracked. Its not the absolute end of the world, but can risk the engine if ignored. Worst case situation could be the piston rings could explain the missifre though, checking the plugs for fowling/oily, will tell you.

Can you not pull the bonnet (hood) release and relevent wiring loom out of the left door and connect it to wiring loom on the right door as a temporary fix, or even is the wiring loom already in the right door and just again hook up the release button unit as a temporary fix. Basically fooling that part to been RHD, just an idea.

Did I miss you mention pulling the fuse for 15s before opening and closing the doors five times to get the engine cover to release when pressing the but? It only took a few seconds on Google.

Im pretty sure you can replace the nutserts for your speaker with new ones, then hold the old nutserts with grips to get the fixings undone

Can you need take the bit of the loom that you need from your drivers door and plug it in the passenger door to pop the hood (engine compartment) ?

That ziptie extension cord under the hood, I think the previous owner tried to hardwire (run power/hot wire) power to the driver door (trunk latch power wire) in order/attempt to get the engine compartment latch open. If I were you, I'd go ahead and order everything. What cool about supercars (Mclaren/Lambo) everything can either be fixed or replaced. You're gonna love this build (adventure/project). I'll purchase the vehicle from you should you ever consider to sale the vehicle in the future?

The nuts holding the speakers are called riv-nuts. They work similar to pop rivets. It would be easy to fit the next size in and file down the bolt heads to suit the speakers.

If you say it’s gone back to the default right hand drive settings, maybe see if there is a wiring loom in the right hand door to plug the switch into, it may help you open the engine cover🤷🏼♂️

The oil smelling like gas is not a problem just keep up on the oil changes. When you pull your spark plugs there going to have oil on them as well don’t be alarmed. It’s a mclaren thing 😊

there should be a release cable behind the seats on each side. I forgot what side it was on because I seen one taken apart at Copart one time. That’s for the engine bay to open up!!

check fuse first ... If good Pull fuse 25, wait 30 seconds then re-insert the fuse. Open and close driver side door 5 times and then open and close the passenger side door 5 times then try the motor cover button on door!

I thought the motors on these are generally ok BUT it's the transmission units that fail if u look at it wrong? Have you put it in gear?

Nope, but I don't recall any crazy transmission faults being read or any faults displayed at startup.

Every single McLaren owner said that or a messed up center stack were the final straw for most McLaren owners and why extended warranty from the dealer are almost required to get them sold. I want a P1 some day but that trans scares me.

tips: the button is activate with 2 wire conectivity so plug out the wire out the socket and touch each others for electricity shocks because button exactly do it, and test if open or not :))

Already tried that! I think the button sends a signal to the ECU, then the ECU sends a signal to the latches.

Use panel bond on your riv nuts. And the sand the paint off the door first. You won’t have that problem again.

Tried bridging the connection already, but I don't think those wires go straight to the latches. Probably connects to ECU, then to latches. Without a wiring diagram I'm lost.

It would of been interesting to take a sample of oil and send it to Blackstone for analysis. Then you could have some data on possible engine damage.
