This took a year to start, but we are starting the biggest project yet on our property and milling lumber to build our container workshop! Milling our own lumber with logs from our property so that we then get to BUILD something on that same piece of land is going to be SO REWARDING! Home improvement and land improvement/clearing is something that we could never get tired of and we are both so excited to be continuing working on the property.

I think we've avoided this project long enough😅 Any ideas on what the best color to paint the shipping container? We want a color that will blend in well with the landscape and trees so it's not a monstrosity to look at😂

If you want it to blend into the scenery, I’d try a dark-ish green. If you want to make it a feature, just pick your favorite color!

I love the Mill. Mainly because I love the idea of being able to cut lumber to real dimensions instead of commercial dimensions. Time to me would be irrelevant. The truth is though, you have to have the space, the up front money it cost to buy not just the mill but the tractor as well so you can actually move the logs around and then obviously the trees to mill, to be able to accomplish this set up. Luckily you have that and I think it's great. I would love to have this, but it's not in the cards at this time. So I have to live vicariously through you guys :D Hope you are both well. Take care!

Agree! We have gotten many trees from our property, but we’ve also reached out to tree companies to get logs from them instead of them taking them to the dump. Once we build a kiln we be livin our dream with this whole thing! Thanks for watching😊

Hola! 🖐I really enjoyed this video. It is so cool to see you transform what used to be trees on your property to logs that will become a structure on your property. Love it! Looking forward to the next one. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊

Problem with funnels is they always end up dirty and are pain to clean. I only use them if absolutely necessary.

This is my dream. My own logs, grown on my land and milled by me. Then building a structure from that material. In this day and age you should also take into account the damage done to the planet by transporting wood from the forest to the mill and then to the store and finally the house. Even if you bought some logs you would be reducing this carbon footprint.

Honestly can’t believe its real that we are getting to do this. I always thought this would happen, but much later in life. It’s a real blessing. Also yes the carbon footprint is dramatically less. Drying our own lumber using the sun alone saves an unbelievable amount of energy.

If you take into account, that the treated wood you buy at HD is cut down, rough cut, milled to dimensional wood, kiln dried, and then treated, it is better to buy at HD. Because when they make it, it is all automated. But, you have this wood, and your time is paid for. And you don’t have to outlay any cash. 0:12 So you end up better, except for the treating of the wood. Where you time is better spent is if you can bill your time higher than what you saved. Now, since you have rough cut lumber, you will have stronger lumber for your lean to. So for its use, you have cut it down, milled it, and you are done. Your will just have to figure out how to keep the bugs out and rot out. One easy way is to char the surface of the wood to keep the bugs away and help against the rot. Or paint everything. Sorry, just rambling. Next step for your saw mill, is finding some logs and a kiln. Or turn the container into a kiln with wire flow……. Good job guys, the lumber does look good. How are you going to move the container? In terms of paint, it’s camo time, tans, browns, and greens.

And you also now have lots of wood for your campfire.

This is all very true, but for us it’s far more valuable being that we cut it and we don’t mind putting the work in to get it. I’ve been paralyzed by the notion that everything you do must make sense on paper, so it’s nice to do something that just feels good. We have a few ideas for moving the container, but it’ll all be in a video so you’ll get to see the struggle😅
