I am no longer a participant of television and the trash it provides. I’m happy to contribute to such channels that show us some fabulously interesting challenges. The sincerity with which you approach the restoration, and the communicating with us, your viewers.😮Truly, the pleasure is ours ! Thank you. ❤❤

Years ago I worked for a man who owned a large landscape construction business. When he was a child in depression-era Los Angeles he started his first business hand-dragging gas station lots with a 2x4 with magnets attached and pulled by a rope. One penny for 10 nails or screws.

Thanks Simon for showing us the tree rings. If you notice the older one with more rings. Thin rings means less rain. A dendrologist can tell the age of a beam or piece of wood by taking a sample and comparing it to a chart. Can't remember at the moment how far back the chart goes but they have been able to date from 1200BC, pretty cool.

I used to volunteer at a large community theatre, and one of the tasks when the show is over is to "strike" the set, i. e., take the set down. We had one of those rolling nail/screw magnets that one of us would run around the stage several times throughout strike. Rolling is fun. Taking the nails and screws off of the magnet and sorting the screws after...not so much! 😂

nails in the tire are no fun. We used to use the magnetic sweepers at work. When we were done we would roll it onto a piece of cardboard and do the release... fold the cardboard on the ribs and dump the nails into the bin. Or your enemy's driveway! No don't do that.
@catherinefromchristchurchn65085 ай бұрын
Such dramatic clearing music! Don't forget to magnetically sweep in the corner where the car was parked, that's where Ryan was dropping demo debris out the window 😊 Tree rings are fascinating, the different widths in the same tree's rings indicate different temperatures and water availability in different years.

They use magnets like that in the operating rooms. If the instruments counts don’t match at the beginning of the surgery and the end of the surgery, then everything stops until they find the missing instrument. They will run the giant magnet on wheels across the floor to see if they can find the instrument and the pt will also be Xray-ed . Surgery doesn’t end until all the counts match!

The slower growing wood with more rings is better suited for furniture making than framing. It holds up better to carving and sanding since it has a tighter cellular structure. Typically the uglier, more "loose" wood is used for framing.
