Retired heavy duty mechanic here. Gawd, this brought back memories. Have not done any Detroit work in years. Used to do the occasional inframe on logging machines, mostly 12V71 and 8V71. Anything small enough that it had a 6 we would just do a swap. I was busting my gut laughing when you were stuck under the bus. Have been there and done that. I was in a really tight spot one time, got stuck. Told my buddy I was stuck as I was trying to wiggle my way out. DON'T PANIC he yells, IT MAKES YOU SWELL UP Well, I just lost it, could not stop laughing. Had a cable tie trying to stick itself into one of my ears, pretty much done. Will never forget that day. Don't panic, you swell LOL

liners come out easy................when I once did a Mack 6 cylinder EA-470 we had one liner couldnt get out using the standard hydraulic press method. So we jacked the whole front end of the truck off the gound ( 4,500kg) on the liner, ran beads of weld inside the liner and went away for a cup of tea. 30 mins later when we came back the liner had finally lifted out the block. crazy stuff.

Love seeing the dogs. I grew up with a St. Bernard, and remember how they are so much fun. As a 60lb kid playing tug of war with a 120lb dog, I'd used to come in covered in green from being dragged around the lawn ;)

That's funny Scott. When I was in highschool some little kid down the street used to get drug around the neighbourhood by a Bernard. One of the funniest things I ever saw.

very cool seeing the difference between an 6-71 and a 6v-71. Both have about the same power but much different packaging. I like how the blower mounts to the side like that. I very much want to find a blower in a junkyard to mount in my garage as wall art with those big twin screws. Very cool stuff!

Man.. Loved that sound.. 1st start of the day.. lol.. Good Father and son day... 1st look at your engine reminds me of the old saying the shoemakers children have no shoes... Working on everybody else's stuff... and yours looks like a Puerto Rico farm bus.. or shrimp boat engine.. lol.. I did however learn tricks pulling the liners with the pistons etc.. Interesting.. U got away with the HOA. as your bus is a Camper... or MH... Just always very interesting stuff with your diesel work... Damn Detroit's... 42 odd years dealing with them... Love the rescue Dog...

At the forklift company I worked for years ago, they used 1 ton Ford trucks (and the Super Duty when they came out in the early 90s) with a box on the back for service trucks. Was nice, you could back up to the loading docks of the customers and also have a nice stand-up shop to work in (unlike hunched over in a van). Well one of our guys lived in a HOA neighborhood, they hated that truck parked in their driveway. But it was his work vehicle, so they had to grudgingly accept it. HOA's are snobs, they don't even like window A/C units, clotheslines, etc. Enjoy your more recent videos, you have a nice piece of land out there to do what you want. Congrats on doing what you enjoy!

Scott, when you came down 11W in East TN last week if you had turned left on 25 there is a bus similar to yours sitting in the Morristown flea market being used for storage. It looks like it has been there a while. It is about 2 miles from Interstate 81 exit 8 on 25. Going toward Morristown TN. It’s been converted to a church/ gospel group buss at some point. There are 2 AC units on roof and some windows have been covered.

I think the old rule was: "The better the mechanic, the worse his vehicle." That was usually because he put all his time & energy into making his customers' vehicles right. So you must be pretty good, lol! I know that you're not going the turbo route just yet, but I'll hate to see that blower come off for the last time when you do. And it's good to see father & son working together on something cool. One last thought: Detroit Diesel > HOA.

Lateef Carrere turbo Detroits are also blown. The dd 2 strokes need the blowers simply to run (they’re not power adders). The turbos are the power adders. That’s right: A 2 stroke dd that’s turbo’d is also supercharged.
